Let's see, last time I had just dumped out 1/2 gallon of trany fluid that was over-filled and replaced the short speedometer 90 degree cable. And it was running great! ::w00t::

My 18 yr old son drove the Supra to work and called me, the short speedometer 90 degree cable broke again and the tranny wouldn't shift again! :nono:

So I bought an entire set of speedometer cables (three in all @ ~$260) and asked my son (from Seattle) to install them. (He wanted something to do while he was visiting here for the weekend.) He decided that only the short one was broke, so put it in and it broke almost immediatley...(there went $114). :3d_frown:

Some how he managed to fix it and then replaced all three cables. :icon_bigg

Decided to drive it to my inlaws about 30 miles away...and called me after 10. It broke again! Said something like the odometer wasn't turning.

So I just bought a set of gauges off ebay and I will replace the speedometer and I have a new short speedometer 90 degree cable sitting at the Stealership waiting for me. I'll get these replaced and see what happens! :runaway:

And it continues....

Last night while the wife was over at one of my son's for Halloween, I finished up installing a (ebay bought) used guage set and a (ebay bought) used 90 degree short speedo cable. After replacing a couple of the lights behind the guage set, everything seems to be working. So I'm excited about taking it out for a few miles of testing around town to make sure the cable doesn't break on me again! :icon_frow

After a few more little things like doing an oil change and replacing the air intake tube (the one that was melted) with a (ebay bought) used one, I'll be ready to start driving it around a bit. And maybe I'll be able to start driving it to work in the next couple of weeks or so!::w00t::

Well thats why we're all here, to learn how to fix stuff that breaks:]

True, but this thing has been one thing after another since last December when I put the engine in, then had to replace the transmission, then I had to replace the radiator, then had to figure out why it wouldn't idle (melted intake tube) then why it would break the 90 degree speedo cable, causing me to replace the speedo and the cables....just found out today that the heater isn't working....It's just ongoing and talk about a money pit! But hopefully I can start driving it and start working on some of the minor things that won't stop me from driving it! :aigo:

Don't even get me started ;)

Think of it this way: Every time you fix something, its one less item which will fail tommarow.

Thanks Guys! :icon_bigg

I have found a number of folks and things on this site that have helped me get this thing working. ::w00t::

I took it out for a 15 mile spin last night and the speedo and cables seem to be working just fine! Now to figure out why the heaters not working....:squint:

Usually the heater stops working because of a faulty heater VSV. It is located on the firewall right next to the wiper motor...follow the coolant hose that comes out of the back of the head, between the valve covers, and goes over to the left.

I've played with that before, can it look like it is working when it is not? Vacuum working and the valve looks like it moved....

Is it just blowing cold air? My heater worked fine a while ago then stopped now works so on and so forth. I think we have the same problem.

I removed the heater hose to the heater core in let and put water to it and then reconnected it so I don't think that there is air in the system, but being clogged, is a good possibility.

Also, I checked the vacuum line and I'm getting vacuum from it. But I'm just wondering if maybe that the valve is broke so the hot water is not going through the heater core.

It just blows cold air.

sounds like the valve if it's just blowing cold air, but if you've already checked it, got me

Try after you get the motor up to temp., turn the heater on and see if the vsv has moved up on the switch. You might try pulling it up to see if it is working. Mine did the same thing and when I pulled up on the switch it let warm water in the heater core and you could then feel heat comming out of the heater, until it cooled down.
