Hey guys, for the past month or so my car has been a pain in the neck. It stalls from point A to point B more than any car should. Did I mention it was auto? Anyways, regardless if i'm going 10 mph or 30 mph, coming to a stop or just slowing down at a higher speed, my rpm's drop to 200-300 rpm, sometimes picking the revs back up or sometimes stalling. This happens when i completely let go of the gas pedal, to avoid stalling i have to ease it down slowly. I am downshifting my auto more than any of you standard guys just so my car doesnt stall out. I'm getting a code 51 when I do my code checks. There is a split second hesitation when you pull on the throttle to rev the engine, my idle in park is at a smooth 650. I do not believe its a boost leak, im running at 8.5 psi with a shimmed wastegate, K&N intake, HKS bov and 3 inch exhaust. My problem with this started before I modded anything on my car.

We had the canada mini-meet out in Surrey yesterday and the guys looked at it for a bit, but no dice. They suggested posting it for more input. The day it started happening was the day i removed my charcoal. Thats the only thing i touched that day, however that shouldnt do shit as far as i'm concerned. I put it back on and it still runs the same shitty way. Yes, it is on correctly. Need some help guys :icon_bigg

Fix the 51, provided you didn't step on the accelerator or have the A/C switch on when you did the test.

Then look for an intake leak.

naw i test it pretty much everyday hoping God will miraculously fix it, but to no avail. A/C is off and i dont touch the accelerator. Its gotta be something so small but i dont know what.

here's how to fix the code 51:

http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=FI&Page=101

if that doesn't do it, then replace the TPS, and do it again. (it's much easier to do with the TB off the car)

edit: it was brought to my attention that you removed your charcoal canister. how did you vent the gas tank? if you just plugged the line from it, chances are the tank is creating vacuum, and your car will stall. try this: take the gas cap off, and drive around the block. if it doesn't stall, you've found your problem. (but fix the others anyway) (and don't drive too quickly, you don't want gas pouring out your filler cap!)

thank you ian for bringing that to my attention- i missed it!

when i removed the charcoal cannister, I blocked the line and drilled a hole in my gas cap. Since then, I put the cannister back on and sealed up that hole. Its still causing the same problem

51 has nothing to do with your gas cap or EVAP system.

Of course it doesnt:icon_razz It just seems odd that I started getting a code 51 minutes after i took off the charcoal cannister and started running the car. Thats the one and only time this car has ever ran a code since I bought it.

Shaeff, I just tried driving around with the cap off. Nothing....still runs the same shitty way. When I test my TPS for resistance it brings up all the correct numbers, so the electronic components of it are fine. I'm not sure about the clearances on the throttle body however.

And if the dealer had been working on it, you would have accused them of doing something to it. And then posted it on the internet about "stealership" right?

yea.. my car dies from time to time when i let off of the gas, or it wil dip really low. altho, when i had like 2 bottles of octane booster it never died. but yea it could be the tps. try using two bottles of octane booster and see if that fixes it?

if you dont have the hks plumbed back into the intake, that will cause it to stall out also. some people have problems with it some dont.

Yea, the BOV could be your problem...I have a TurboXS vented to atmosphere, and it RARELY stalls, but it could be your problem...try putting the stock bpv/bov back on, and see if your problem persists, and also fix your TPS, a bad one will cause all kinds of weird problems...

UPDATE:

Well today i will be removing the throttle body and adjusting it. I discovered something when i just pulled up home this morning. When i rev my engine my headlights get really bright, when i release the pedal they dim way down. This aint normal is it :icon_razz Could this be my stalling problem? I replaced my plugs not too long ago, could it be a shotty alternator thats causing these problems? That still doesnt explain the code 51 though.

Well its finally complete...I fixed my problem. So this is what it feels like to drive a finely tuned car. Turns out when i ran all the tests last month i overlooked the correct stop screw clearance for one test. The problem was there was no IDL signal, so i took it all apart and a couple hours later had it running perfect after adjusting it. Thanks to everyone for putting up with my constant bitching :icon_razz Until next time.....:evil2:
