I have an 89t thats has a high idle. Once the car warms up to operating temp it idles around 1200 rpm. The strange thing is about every 5 to 10 min. i hear this loud fan noise as if i just started the car. I replaced the temp switch with no success. This problem started about 2 weeks ago at the same time my cold start injector switch broke. This may be my the culprit the only reason i hadn't tried it is because i've read several post where some members have stated that if this switch goes bad it want hurt anything. If anyone can offer a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

Try unplugging the stock electric fan(s) near the battery and see if it goes away. Betcha that's the noise. :)

Well i fixed the idle issue, but the fan noise remains. I checked the stock electric fans when the noise came in and they are not coming on. I know its the cooling fan because the volume of air being moved greatly increases. Like i said it goes in and out about every 5 mins. Its the same sound when the car is first started for the first few seconds.

Ummm the engine fan is a temp sensitive clutch fan!

See the little curled spring on the front of it?

Thats' a bimetalic spring that changes length as the coolant temp increases in the radiator it then opens or closes ports in the fan clutch to vary the amount of slip.

What you're describing sounds like it's just doing it's thing!
