Here is my situation.
Freshly rebuilt motor
ARP everything
Forged JE pistons
Cometic MHG
Unfortunately, in one of my many oil level checks I discovered something.
Now that it runs better and can get up to running temp, the oil is concrete grey. Fucking BHG Symptoms.
But I have a MHG and ARP studs and Got my head decked!!!!
My Turbo was belching out oil into the intake so I thought that may be the culprit. So I removed the coolant supply line to the turbo and changed the oil. Same Greyish White oil.
That sucks. No chance of getting the machine shop to make it right?
kaiser said:A friend in town told me that the Machine shop I use, while being renowned for there attention to detail and thorough cleaning, does not poses the machining capabilities to machine a block and head to the correct RA for a MHG.
Does this make sense?
Quite possibly. Using a lapping block is really the only way to get it right.
I strongly suggest you post this publicly to get feedback from others as well.
kaiser said:Will Copper spray fix this or should I just throw in a OEM HG?
Copper spray isn't something I use. I doubt it will do it. Throwing on an OEM HG isn't really a good move either. Taking it apart and figuring out what's wrong is the correct thing to do. I know that sucks, but it is what it is. Doing anything else is cutting corners.
kaiser said:After reading your thread on Rod Knock I found in your sig, what is the best way to ensure there is NO residual coolant left in my block after I pull the oil pan?
Do it before you pull the pan.
Drain the coolant.
Drain the oil.
Fill it up with some cheap oil.
Run it for 2 or 3 minutes. (it won't overheat in that short an amount of time)
Let it cool.
Repeat 2 or 3 times.
That should flush the water out. However it's risky at best.
As I said, it's still cutting corners. But that might work. However if your coolant is that badly contaminated, there may already be bearing damage. You're taking a chance by not completely doing it over again. I know what you're thinking, the money, time and effort. But think about the money time and effort you'll go through to half ass it. Will it be worth it if it just blows up 2 weeks from the day you start it up? Only you can make that decision.
So, to recap:
1. Post your issue publicly so you can get feedback from other people. I'm not 100% infallible. Other people sometimes come up with ideas that I've never though of.
2. Try to make the machine shop own this problem if you think they are the cause. Tearing the head off will probably reveal the issue.
3. Stop and think about whether or not you want to try to cut corners, or if you're going to dig in and do a full rebuild. Following suggestion #1 above may help you get more input to make that decision.
Sorry this happened to you. This sucks and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
SIDE NOTE:
I Fucked up the "Zoo loo" Head mod and put the holes at the BACK of the Head instead of the front.
This is the "Zoo loo" Mod
I have tapped and plugged the holes with set screws that I put some black FIPG on the threads so hopefully that will fix that part.
