ok so im geting alot of compressor surge with my 60-1 ct turbo... what should i do? the bov doesnt really seem to let pressure out very well... even if i dont totaly let off the gas i can still hear the flutter sound.. like if i barly boost like 1-2psi then kinda back off the gas i can hear a flutter.

honestly, thats fairly normal.

if you have a bov large enough to handle high boost, it is going to have a fairly stiff spring in it. stiff springs are not sensitive enough to open at such a low psi. you can loosen the bov, where it will open that low, but then it can open under higher boost levels.

ok well i heard that if i have any compressor surge it will kill my turbo :S i dont want that... i have a bov off ebay.. i mean it works good as far as holding boost, but doesnt seem to open unless higher boost is made. will the hks ssqv open under low boost? and is compressor surge really all that bad?

Get something adjustable. I use the Greddy type-s. Though I think they are discontinued. Maybe the RS is adjustable. Greddy is good stuff, but you pay for it. Not sure if the HKS SS is adjustable or not. Never used one.

Is it a dual port BOV? I have an ebay dual port Greddy type S knockoff, and it works *beautifully* - I can set the spring nice and loose (maybe... 5-6psi of pressure on it), and the way it is designed, when I boost, the boost pushes on BOTH sides of the diaphragm equally, preventing the BOV from leaking at *any* psi level - as soon as I let off the gas, I get a large vacuum above the diaphragm, and pressure under it, forcing it to open very quickly.

My Synapse Sychronic BOV is a dual port (well, actually a tri port, but that one serves another purpose) diaphram-less pull type BOV. Doesn't leak under any type of boost (like other pull types), is fully adjustable, and is able to be recirculated.

Works good, I just have a vacuum issue somewheres, I'll have to check around the VSV's, I'm thinking one of them may be a culprit...

I have enough vacuum to make it work just fine, but I'm suspecting I've got a vacuum leak somwheres, but it's not comfirmed yet.

I second what Doward said, depends on the Ebay type you got. I have the Tial knockoff, and it has never leaked to my knowledge, and will vent during shifts as low as 1psi.

PS- Starscream- I love that Synapse BOV, looks awesome.

It's pretty damn big for sure, maybe about 1.5" to 2" longer than the SSQV, but I think that's because of the backside having different internals in it from other conventional diaphram type BOVs.

I have a genuine HKS SSQV and I have pretty much the same problem as the OP. When under part throttle, building <3-4lbs, the BOV tends to flutter. Anything above that it works fine. The HKS bov's removed their adjustments so I have no way to change the spring tension. This kinda pisses me off because I have been through 2 stock replacement turbo's with no shaft play. I just installed one ~1 month ago. We will see how long it lasts.

Ever think that maybe you could take apart the rear housing, determine where the spring is, and then drill, tap the outer housing and install your own spring tensioner?
