Cold Start Injector woes

In troubleshooting my car's difficult starting problem, I tried to remove the CSI to see if it was all gummed up. The problem is, I can't get it off! I can remove the two bolts that are on either side of the injector but can't for the life of me figure out how to disconnect it from the wiring. Any tips? It doesn't seem to have enough roomto just pull out while still being connected, which is irritating.

On a side note, the part of the injector that I could see appeared to be covered in a thick black grime. What is the best way to get this stuff off? I was thinking of simply wiping it off with a rag, but should I apply some cleaner or solvent to it?

I personally used brake cleaner, loads of it mind you, to clean off and remove all the gunk from my CSI. As far as the connector, I don't remember anything special I had to do to remove the connector, but I do believe you will need to disconnect the wiring before you will be able to pull the CSI out. Maybe one of the other guys has a pic they can post of the connector, but I believe it's pretty straight forward. Good luck bro.

just don't let the dealership do it. they will break it for you and tell you that you have to by a whole new wire harness because you can't order just the sensor. j/k no but seriously, don't let toyota touch it.

the electrical conector clip is the just like or extremely similar to the clip on the vsv's. so if you look at those you can get an idea of how to undue the electrical clip...... as for getting the csi off, i think i just had to tug and wiggle at mine to get it out.......

Yeah what's throwing me off is disconnecting the wiring from the actual CSI itself. It looks like I need two wrenches, one on the top nut, and one in the middle (?). Is that the way to do it? If I could just unclip the wiring connector that would probably be easiest, but it looks like it snakes under the intake manifold to god knows where. I think putting it back would more of a hassle than it's worth.

Take of the 3000 pipe, cam cover, and the throttle body and you can get to it from the other side. Definitely a PIA.

By the way, you can send to to RC Engineering and they will clean it and flow test it. Same price as for the other injectors.

It's what's affectionately known as a "Jesus Clip" because you get it part way off and it goes flying. You then go "Jesus!!!" and try to find it, which you wont.

You need some needle nose pliers, a pick, and a magnet to successfully remove that clip.
Good luck, you're gonna need it ;)

You can't get the injector out? Did you remove the hard fuel line?

Toyota is probably the best place to take it. Or a shop started by somebody who spent many years there.
