I actualy put on my own cold air intake and yes you should take out at least the small plastic that covers just underneath the pass. light. Caution though if you live somewhere where there is a lot of rain(water). I have an adapter plate on my maf sensor and used a short intake for an eclipse off my adapter and threw the hole behind the headlight and the pipe slightly bends down and that's where I have my intake. It perfectly fits between my intercooler pipe and headlight. There is not much room after that. I'm sure if you rerouted your intercooler pipes or moved the filter somewhere else it would work. I wanted to keep my foglights so none of that is touched. Thats my 2 bits. Later and good luck-T

i wouldnt take the plasic undercover out. i'd put the filter in there, where there's nice calm air. dont you think it'd be harder for the turbo to suck in turbulent air, rather than nice calm air? i do, but then again, it is my opinion.

The plastic that goes under your engine, radiator, and intercooler directs the air flow through the intercooler and radiator, this in turn helps with cooling. If this is the plastic you are reffering to I strongly suggest you leave it on. Yes, it will have adverse effects if you take it off.

leave it on, mine is torn off because it was stolen, now a theft recovery and i miss it.... does make it easier to work on under there tho...

ok well then ill just keep it on and i will build the piping and route it from that oval shape where the stock air filter went and put it under the head light...but one last question...do you think i could cut a hole in the intake and put my maf (black part) in the intake and just eliminate that huge one? or would it get different air flow?

had that on My n/a dunno if it did alot as it was a n/a.

N/A's dont take to upgrades the way turbo's do... slap an intake on an N/A, and do the same for a turbo, and there'll be a hell of a difference between the the two. (difference in power gained by the upgrade, not power overall. we all know that the turbo is quicker)

This plastic you guys are refering to also keeps HEAT in your engine compartment and lets think heat/intake.....cold outside ram air/intake. I am also just refering to the small plastic piece under the passenger headlight. Not the main big piece or the other side piece. Shoot what do I care I have a cowl hood that vents out all the bad air anyway. Good luck-T

Uhm, cowl hoods take air in, not let it out. Ever wonder why the old cars used those for air intake, or why your interior air vents are there (under the windshield)? It's not because the air is being exhausted, it's because it's a high pressure area, forcing air in if your car is moving at all. It works while standing still, but it's a dumb idea just to vent that into the engine bay randomly, since it reduces your cooling capacity.

I did this years ago. Works great.
I have both the IC pipe and the intake pipe running through where the stock airbox snorkle hole was. (I've since enlarged it to allow both a 2.5" IC pipe and 3" intake pipe pass.)

Run with the lower plastic in place. It keeps water out of the filter for the most part, and your getting plenty of cool air there being forced into the front grille opening. Air likes to spill around the coolers as much as it goes through them. (Think about this, if you took a bucket of water, and poured it over your intercooler, some would run through the cooler, and some would run off and around the cooler. This is why duct work is so effective, and fan shrouds should never be removed. Those ducts and shrouds limit the amount of air that can spill off around the cooler v/s being drawn/pushed through it.)

So unless your FMIC is ducted, quite a bit of air is going to spill off the edge, and feed the intake filter behind the fog lamp. If you want more, build a duct that feeds the filter, but I'd take it from the front, and not try and scoop up air from below. (Too much rain water and other debris that way.)
