So I was going to the store and was telling my friend how my car just doesnt feel like the power its putting out is hitting the ground at all.... so he goes ok up here get on her.

So I hit it hard, 1st 2nd and 3rd pulls to 5500rpms each, he goes wtf, thats it? He even noticed it BARELY moves hard and doesnt put you in ur seat at all.... so

My question is, can the clutch having over 85K on it be worn enough to drive and even at less than WOT pull a little to manuever traffic, but when I get on her, barely pull hard at all?

Any other ways to test this out?

I know back in January when I was running from that IS300, I slammed into reverse then while I was rolling backwards still, I hit 1st and it went NO WHERE, then 2nd and NO WHERE in 3rd it finally grabbed. Its never "slipped" since then.

Sounds like you glazed it. Or with 85K it could just be worn out.

Clutch is slipping , Watch your Rpms when you give it gas if your rpms go up but your speed does not increase then your clutch is shot. You should feel it too.

Well my speed goes up, slowly

In my 3rd gear during that pull when I stopped I was only at 60mph LOL

It sucks when that happens. I really noticed it when it started happening.... both times :icon_mad:

Your clutch won't just slip slowly...as it starts slipping, it will let go completely, and you will just rev to redline...I would say something else is your problem.
I had clutches last 3 -5 months after they started slipping,So i beg to differ. It depends on the situation i had cluches rip the center spline right out of the middle.

I beg to differ on that whole idea that your can't somewhat fry a clutch...

I had to replace my transmission in my Maxima but the clutch itself was shot (we saw it out of the transmission) and I could sit there and shift and the RPMs would raise much faster then normal (well a tad faster, if you know your car you notice the RPMs raising a bit faster) but you are not gaining as much speed as before...

think of it like your rotor... your wheels do not just stop when you put the break on, they create friction and slow you down, think of the opposite of that on a clutch...

in your situation it sounds like your clutch is really worn or is slipping.

You are applying force from the motor and it is slipping across the clutch just like your brake pads grab the rotor... though you are not grabbing as well as you would a new clutch or even a good condition one so you are not grabbing as well, just like bad break pads will not stop you as well...

new clutch simple as that...

to test it...

get to a decent RPM in 4th gear, but not soo much that downshifting would be stupid... downshift and punch it...

what should happen is your RPMs raise about 300 RPMs and then they slowly go back down to the RPMs normal for that speed in 3rd gear... that is, if your clutch is slipping the stated test will show that.

Ill test that tomorrow, aside from noticing that everything else youve explained is exactly what I was thinking, I just wasnt sure if I was the only one to think like this, it makes sense. Keep in mind it has 85+k miles on it to my knowledge.

The same exact thing happened to me a few months back. It turned out that the a few of the "fingers" on the pressure plate gave out. I am willing to bet the same thing happened to you.

Well with 85k your clutch has done well if that's it, even for an NA, and I wouldn't suggest the Spec if you like a lot of clutch feel, it is great holding clutch but not my favorite to drive with. I would reccomend an ACT but its up to you.

Honestly I just went with a stock kit and it has held up just fine.(FYI: I am N/A for the time being.) What are your plans with the car?
