ok so I just got done doing a few upgrades to my car on a newly rebuilt tranny and brand new clutch assembly... so the other day I was headed back to school in it and I pulled it out of 5th gear to put it into 4th to get onto the highway and it clunked coming out of 5th and then I couldn't go into any gears... last night I went ahead and changed out my slave cylinder... still nothing... so I pulled the inspection plate and noticed that the slave cylinder was infact pushing the clutch fork which was pushing the throwout bearing but I wasn't able to get the car in gear while running... now when it wasn't running I was able to slide it into gear... and if I tried to start it in gear w/ the clutch in it would still jump foward like the clutch was engaged...anyone have any ideas...

Maybe your master cylinder took a dump. But since it won't engage at all, I don't know how to test for it's fault.
One more idea would be to bleed the system. If you have air in there your clutch will not engage.
It sounds like a weird problem to have, especially with a new clutch assembly. But if you didn't do the install yourself, take it back to where it was done. If I had to start somewhere it would be the fluid. Good luck, I hope you find your problem ASAP.

yeah I just changed my fluid when I did the slave cylinder... so it's new fluid and the master cylinder is doing it's job by sending the fluid to the slave cylinder... everything is doing it's job up to the pressure plate... which is weird... I can't see if the pressure plate is moving or not but the slave cylinder is and the throwout bearing is...

thanx supraman420...

I think I'm just going to go ahead and drop the tranny and take a look... I think thats what I'm going to have to end up doing anyways... plus that will give me the chance to upgrade my clutch to handle the power that I have...

If it wont move, you might need to take out the tranny. The shift lock may have come undone, and now the rods and forks cant move. Shift lock is just groves cut into the rods so you cant be in two gears at once.

I'm not sure if it is that... b\c I can pull it out of gear when it's not running and start the car and it runs fine... now when I put it in gear while not running and then try to start it, it jumps foward...

If you pull the inspection plates off and shine a light in there while having somebody press the clutch you should be able to see the 'forks' (correct term?) on the pressure plate moving towards the rear of the car. hmmmm....sounds odd to me

I did that... and I said that I could see everything moving upto the pressure plate... I couldn't physically see it... so I'm thinkin I'm just going to drop the tranny...

Sounds like a dead clutch - something has broken and siezed the thing together.

In any case, you are right on the money with your plans - you need to drop the tranny to figure out what is ailing the system.

yeah I figured that would be the best way to figure out what is wrong... I'm almost positve it's my clutch assembly... so I'm just going to go ahead and upgrade to a stage 2 clutch, and a fidanza lightend flywheel... hey GrimJack do you think I'll have any problems getting that clutch off if it's siezed... in other words is there anything special that I would need to do if it was siezed...

No, I bet something just snapped and is jamming the entire assembly together. I did that in one of my Mk2s, snapped a spring on the disc, then the pieces of the spring fell and jammed the whole thing together.

Pulling it apart afterwards was easy. Just unbolted the pressure plate and the busted spring fell right out.
