I am having problems with my clutch giving way once I hit 6-7 pounds of boost. The car runs incredibly well at all times on a motor and clutch with less than 1000 miles. It never slips, grinds, or shows any sign of a problem under normal driving conditions. But, I just got my 3" exhaust on it, and have been trying it out. It does just fine until that 6-7 lb mark, and then seems to just let go. This only happens sometimes (but a lot). Other times it is just fine, and boosts up to the 9-10lb mark.

A little quick history. I bought a motor off ebay and paid to have it put in with a new clutch. That motor was bad, so I got another one and put it in myself.

I'm wondering if maybe they gave me a N/A clutch ( to save on their cost, and increase profit), or did I possibly do something wrong reinstalling it?

Its hard to say if you did something wrong when installing it since I wasnt there. lol. Do you have a R154, the stock turbo tranny? If so I'm pretty sure you wouldnt be able to install a N/A clutch onto it. Also, did you break it in correctly? You should try to find out what brand clutch it is because they might offer a warrenty or it might tell you that its just a crappy clutch. Also, where does the clutch grab, cause if it grabs all the way at the top it might not be engaging fully.

yes deffinatly check that your freeplay is right before anything else cuz thats easy to fix and identify. i'd also go under the car and stick my finger into the bell housing via the inspection covers and see if there is any oil in there(bad rms). do you still have fluid in the clutch fluid resivour?

if he had no fluid in the cylander, it wouldnt DISENGAGE. ;) (read: it would always be clamped at full pressure)

drove it at lunch.............yes the pedal lets out almost at the tip

also have a vibration at highway speeds. I have thought it was tires, but could be a clutch not evenly tightened. Will adjust pedal first

This is very common. My clutch gave out after I installed my boost controller and pushed the boost up. It would give out just before I hit full boost [11-ish psi] and my revs would shoot through the roof, but I would be going nowhere. This is a sign that you NEED a new clutch, and you are going to need it very soon, regardless of whether you turn the boost off or keep it up where it is. I paid for a TRD clutch, but I had to drive carefully across town to get to the dealer before it gave out completely. In fact, the clutch burned out COMPLETELY a little less than a mile from the dealership, and my buddy had to "tow" me into the parking lot.

Take care of that clutch before it takes care of you.

Wow I did not know that so I can get a nice R154 clutch and use it on my w58

and incorrect.

the w58 uses a PUSH type release. the r154 uses a PULL type release. the pressureplates are completely different. they are NOT interchangable. the only thing that MIGHT be interchangable is the clutch DISK itself. if you look at actual pictures (not ones off clutch manufacturer websites) but actual pictures then you'll see what i mean.

once again, they are NOT interchangable!

What kind of clutch did they puy in? It maybe just a oem replacement which I have fried at less than 500 miles with 300's whp. It could also be your pressure plate. A weak and worn out pressure plate will not have enough clamping force to prevent clutch slipping. Did they even change that? Did they turn the flywheel??

I paid for the complete Stock replacement clutch, pressure plate, bearing, and flywheel resurfacing. It all looked new when I swapped it from the bad motor to the present one. I was gonna adjust the pedal today, but it still hasn't stopped raining. Maybe tomorrow! Then I'll know if I need somebody to fix whatever installation error I may have created. Hopefully it's just in the pedal.
