clutch pedal feel changed suddenly

I drove my car out of the driveway and parked it on the street this morning, and it felt like the clutch ingagement point was a little lower than normal.. but i was too tired to really care/notice. So i come home from school (i get a ride from someone else, i don't feel like taking the chance of my car getting broken into.), and i get in my car to go to the store, and the clutch feels totally different different. The clutch used to engage really high, but it changed to engaging around the middle of the pedal throw. so i drove it around for a while, and after about 20 mins of driving it feels almost totally normal. I'm thinking... clutch slave cylinder? leaking maybe.. or maybe needs to be bled... idk, any help would be appreciated. thanks

are either of them hard to replace?

no. back when i didnt have any expiriance it took me about 2 hours to do the master cylinder. undo the line, undo the two mounting bolts, disconect it from the pedal, pull it out. bleed when your done. not hard at all.

cant explain that. look for leaks on the pedal and aound both cylinders anyway. my money is still on a blown cylinder.

not next to, ontop of. the cylinder and the resevoir are attached, they will come out as one piece. yes regular break fluid. dot 3 as is recomender on the reseviour cap.

I actually replaced both of mine. Both from a local autoparts warehouse i get a deal from. Haven't had a problem with any of them, but it hasn't been to long that I replaced them.

They are not hard to replace. The slave is easier because the master you have to get under the dash by the pedals, but both are pretty easy to replace.

Each for any break fluid in the engine compartment and by the clutch pedal for the master. The slave might be a little harder to detect because it is under the car.
If no fluid is found try bleeding it and then see what happens.

woah, that's crazy, i just rememered seeing a black area right where the clutch pedal hits the floor... so the master is under the dash... ok.. i'll take a look right now.

yes, there is deffinatly fluid on the back side of the pedal. hopefully the slave isn't leaking too. looks like this would be pretty easy to replace. since you don't have to go under the car.

Hey, I work for ADVANCE AUTO PARTS. Actually, we would sell the exact same brand clutch master or slave cylinder as Autozone, OReily's or Pep Boys. All three come from the exact same supplier. They are packaged different.

Let me tell you a secret about the parts we sell. If you want a part for your supra, and there is a listing for a "Beck/Arnley" part, get that one. It cost more, but it will be made by the OEM manufacture that toyota uses. I bought my slave cylinder from Advance, and it happens to be painted light blue and have AISAN stamped in the side of it. Wow, that would be the same one that came stock on my car :) Toyota doesn't make most of their parts, they contract them out to different companies. Like most of the fuel system is usually made by denso. If you bought a "Beck/Arnley" injector it would most likely be a denso. If you are willing to spend a little more, you can get good quality parts. Me and my friends have bought multiple parts with this name on them that arrive stamped with the same name that the original is stamped with.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I had to represent my company :)

Ok, back to the previous conversation.

^^^
i would trust you to sell me a part because i know that you know a thing or two about cars but the guys at my advanced auto dont know their ass from a spark plug. i swear they are retarded. and the crap i was refering to would be all the "preformance upgrades" such as flamed seat belt pads, plastic chrome shift nobs ect.

Beck/arnley would be your best choice for parts.Thats what i get from my parts warehouse. Its good to have a hook up on parts. And for removing the master its not that hard its just a pain in the ass.
