Clutch disc upgrade question.

Question, is there a full face sprung ceramic disc out there that would hold up mid 400rwtq when used with a stock PP? I want a stock peddle feel without the chatter of a six puck.

As some of you know I took the 'ole car out to the dragstrip and the stock clutch didn't hold. I'm now looking to upgrade the clutch disc. I'm not looking for an entire clutch & PP set right now because I can't afford that right now. In the past I've heard that a stock PP and an upgraded ceramic 6 puck sprung disc and will support mid 400rwtq. If I had to guess I think my car might be putting out somewhere in the range of 280-290rwtq.... maybe?

6-puck is a good option, but get a whole clutch kit if you're replacing it.
Realize, that because of the extreme slippage that occurred on the strip, your PP is likely not good anymore. I've had brand new clutch discs slip because of a reman'd PP that didn't do what it was supposed to do. My suggestion would be to get a clutch that would support your short term power/torque goal. I really liked my Spec 3+ for drag racing, it held really well (only issue I ever had was 3-4/4-5 no-lift shifting it wouldn't hold the power without lifting lightly)

My transmission of 200k miles was the main shortcoming when I went racing, 2nd gear made me sad a lot :p

Good thing you started this thread, I'm in the same dilemma as you. I'm curious to see if anyone has pushed the stock pp to a good HP level and can share. Also what's the ft/lb rating on the stock pp? At the moment I'm leaning towards a ACT HD clutch kit cause it comes with the full face disc which will be less chatter also.

I remember seeing a post made by the guy who drives the cherry widebody supra he's running a full face disc setup and loves it. I hope he chime in about his set up cause he's making some good numbers on it I think.

I use the stock PP/flywheel with a 6-puck ceramic clutch disk from Raptor racing. It chatter a little bit, but it's not broke-in all the way yet so it might soften a bit.
I used a OEM clutch (brand new) and it didn,t held up the power of the 57-ct26 + 550cc/lex maf@ 18psi. It slipped like crazy

A lot is how you drive the car- Rob drives like a grandma and when he boosts he doesn't shift aggressively/no lift shifts. It wouldn't hold up to drag tyle launches for long at all :(

get a bronze disc from HPF. Good clutch disk that you can use when you upgrade your PP down the road, and proven to hold over 500rwhp. plus the breakin is really quick, which is a huge benefit if you dont drive the car that often.

i've got one with a TRD PP and it drives very nicely.

That looks like a nice clutch! I've never met a puck-style clutch that didn't chatter though. (I'm kinda picky on that kinda stuff, though)
