ok, as of a couple of days ago, ive started to notice a clicking sound in the supra. sounds like its coming from behind the dash. problem is that you really dont hear it till you really get on it. boost fine, no stumble.

i do have the suprasport egr block off plates installed. im starting to think that it could be a leak from the egr cooler. any thoughts?

it kinda bothers me because its so hard to find. its at the rear of the engine. and i just replaced the clutch 6 months ago. im hoping somthing is not messed up. never happended till just the other day.

its not valve noise. very hard to hear at idle.

no its not around the door. you can defently tell its under the hood/behind the dash. and it only does it while your driving around 3500 rpm's. still looking. kinda hard to figure out just idleing in the driveway.

i also have a clicking sound lol. i just had my HG done a few weeks ago, and when i got it back from the shop, i noticed it. didnt do it before. mine sounds like its coming from the ECU, but i could be wrong. mine only happens when i start it up cold. once the engine is warmed up and driven a bit, the sound is gone. weird.

i also think that its the egr cooler. my .02

bad thing about it is that when i replaced the clutch, i only pt in a stock clutch because of funds.:icon_conf

i am so worried right now. its the only car in the house. if i cant work, i cant fix it.

so, if it is the egr cooler and i get my lil ninja hands out in the cold trying to fix it, does anyone here know about egr coolers?

EGR Cooler, back of the head. Take over the valve covers, use a 1/4" ratchet wrench and 10mm socket (I grinded it down to make it shorter, MUCH easier). Remove 8 bolts, remove EGR cooler (its a plate thing). Clean the mating surfaces, replace the gasket (I made a block off plate), screw down all 8 of those screws all the way. Prepare for bloody nucks and a bad back for the next week.. err month.

so it can be done with the head still on the block......

most of my research sez that its easier to remove the head. (**not really a option at the moment**) if it can be done with the head on great!

not to be mean, but id like some more opinions before i go ripping on it to spend hours fixing sumthin not broken.

off topic-- the last clutch in it appeared stock. i noticed the pp side of it was gone. the flywheel side still had material(very little), but it seperated a lil bit. im a lil worried the new clutch may have done that too from overpowering it.?.?.?.?

im sure there are others that have a idea or two.:1zhelp:

Yea, i know what you're saying about not fixing it if its not broken.. It sounds like thats what it is to me. If the sound is non-existant during idle.. but you can hear it when accelerating (tick tick tick), then thats what it is. The easy way to check is to start your car when its completely cold, put your hand on the back of the head (easiest from passenger side), and feel for those exhaust gases comming out, rev it a little if you have to. I wouldnt suggest doing this with a hot motor.

If it's egr related you should have some black soot in the general area. Also under the intake manifold near the booster area, that's where the egr tube is connected to the intake with two bolts. I have seen those loose already, made a ticking noise at various rpm's. Entire underside of the intake was black at the rear area. You could not see it from the top.

well, now ive noticed the sound just a lil bit at idle. going to have to grind down a socket and tear off the egr cooler i guess. ill be ever so pissed off if thats not it.
