Clicking/popping/snapping clutch

Hey guys, something kind of strange is going on with something in my clutch assembly when I release the clutch pedal. Every time I start my car and I let out the clutch pedal (fairly slowly, not just lifting my foot up quick and obviously in neutral) I get this click from something undernaith that you can easily feel through the pedal is like something snapping back. I'm almost certain that it didn't do this right after I installed it but it seems like it has clicked like this for some time on start up(used the clutch for about a yr I'd say). Also, to further perplex, it doesn't feel like it does it at all while I'm starting off and definitely doesn't do it when shifting up or down while driving.

The click does feel like it happens right when the clutch would be more grabbing then slipping. (when the PP would not be putting as much pressure on the throw out bearing any more)

When I put the clutch in I re-greased everything including all the points the TSRM recommends on the clutch fork, so unless I didn't use enough and it has worn off I have no idea whats causing it because the clutch works perfectly fine other wise and has since I put it in; it grabs smoothly, doesn't slip and makes no other abnormal noises.

Anyone got any ideas? I don't want to take apart too much right now since I have a big trip planned for this coming weekend but I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks!

IJ: very aussie of you ;), but yea not good.

It looks like what I have to do is get it up in the air some time and have someone push the clutch pedal while I watch with the access covers off; since I guess it COULD be a ton of different things.

Just to prove the inconsistency of the thing, so far today it hasn't made one noise what-so-ever.

On a better note, I'm nearly finished capeting where my rear seats used to be! :icon_bigg

OK, well after my long trip (supra took it without skipping a beat the whole way there or back BTW) the clicking got much worse and it clicks numerous times throughout the clutch throw. So tomorrow I'm going to be hanging out with a buddy of mine to look at a Supra for him so I'll have him help me figure it out.

By the way, if it is simply a grease issue on the release fork or something what kind of grease have you guys (or just Ian since you're the one who usually replys ;)) used on it. I put Amsoil series 2k on there but I hope that it just wasn't the right kind, to make it an easy fix.

You mite want to check the 2 bolts holding the pivot point on the clutch fork are bolted in tight. I snapped one and bent the other a while back. It started with a clicking sound and then turned into a grinding sound as the fork ground against the pp.
I was going to say the return spring on the clutch pedal as mine made that same click and I felt it through the pedal. Just poked my finger up there and moved the grease around that was already on there.

Well, I went under to check it out yesterday and found that... well nothing. Everything looked as tight and clean as the day I put it in there, and I had my buddy push the clutch in at east 20 times while I tried to locate the source of the sound, which is definitly coming from the outside the cabin. I also tried to feel around for where it could be coming from, the slave cyl and clutch fork I couldn't even feel th tick, then when I touched the PP/flywheel I could feel it but only just.

miggles: When I did the clutch I never took those bolts out even, so although it was not something I looked for during my visual check I didn't notice anything loose and I have my doubts that they just came loose on their own from the factory tightening.

I just don't understand, you can clearly hear that it is coming from where the clutch assy is but aside from being like a faulty PP I have no idea what it could be, since nothing is even showing the slightest hang or anything when you watch it move.

If I provided a quick video clip do you guys think it could help diagnose? I'd need somewhere to host it but at least it might give a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Sorry, I have no solution for ya. Just by looking at it I can't tell anything besides it seems to be something in/on the pressure plate, and I don't have the time to tear the whole thing down to see exactly what the problem is, all I can say is that it still works perfectly, just clicks sometimes.
