So we eat a nice dinner and drink some wine. Soon afterward we go over to the living room to watch A Christmas Story and open some gifts. This was a nice evening with the parents we were, jokeing, laughing and haveing a good time until my brother goes to open a gift he got...with a knife and to let you guys know my Dad always has every knive in the house well sharpened so what does he do? Cut his thumb wide open!

I mean so open you could see bone! and what gets me is he comes over and says "Hey Dad I stabbed myself!" all mello dramatic like it didn't hurt but damn it bled! So hes off to Lake Saint Louis Hospital to get about 10 or more sitches and Im at home with my dogs...Merry Christmas eh?

That reminds me of the time I was at work in Korea. I had come back from the chow hall earlier in the night and I had stuck one of their plastic juice bottles in the freezer [I like to freeze it and scrape it, to eat it like a slushee]. Well, when I went to cut the top off and open it, I used a razor [we have plenty at work] and cut pretty deep on my right index finger. It didn't hurt since it was so sharp, so I calmly told one of my co-workers "Hey man, I just cut myself.... like, bad." He thought I was joking until I started looking around for something to stop the bleeding and bandage the sucker. I SHOULD have gotten stitches, but I put pressure on it instead.

I come from a land down under
I keep a tube of SuperGlue handy while I'm in the workshop just in case!
(search it's origins)

A lot of the time I'll cut myself mid program and can't leave to get it fixed properly.

IJ, your on the mark there, it was a roll of 3M bandage tape and some super glue as standard equipment around the CNC lathes and mills... (Just move some of those 4' long curlled up cuttings... And there you go, it's time for a few drops of glue and some bandage tape... )

Never worked there much, but I got more cuts deburring parts and cleaning up around the machines than anywhere else I've ever worked. (Then I discovered stainless/kevlar mesh gloves, they are awesome! You really have to try and cut this stuff, it breathes so your hands don't sweat, and other than feeling like Michael Jackson all the time, they are wonderful.) The gloves are a silver color, and they do sort of sparkle at times in the right light....

Leather gloves help, but with stuff this sharp, they don't do much. (And you can't wear them around the moving machines, if they snag on a moving part, your hand/arm/shoulder/body you get the point... get's pulled into the machine.) Takes more than glue and bandage tape at that point... LOL

silly brother..

oddly enough, its more often the dull knives that cause accidental cuts then the sharp ones.
