That's the sound that's coming from my motor. I can hear it as I rev up off idle. I know it's not good. But I can't figure what it is. Sounds like some one jingleing chains together. Doesn't seem to be affecting the way the motor runs but it's got to be something. Any ideas? :1zhelp:

Maybe if I'm more descriptive:
It sounds like somebody rattling a small chain or like the sound of one of those chimes on a kids bike, you know kind of a ching ching or like if you dropped a small chain. It's kind of like something was loose and it seems to be internal but hard to tell. Somebody out there has heard this before.

Cat heat shield?

that's what i was going to say. i've never heard a rattling chain sound from a motor before. i'd check for a loose heat shield on the cat, or on the exhaust manifold or something. anything thin and metal that could be loose...

use a tube or hose about 2-3 ft long and 1' round. put it up to your ear and point the other end at the car. you should be able to locate it directionally. watch out for the fans...

maybe the turbo bearings are worn out and it's the fan blades scraping against the walls? happened to me.... didnt sound like a chain but it's worth a check.

a long screwdriver works good to (seriously) if u want to make sure it's nothing in your head or other non moving part stick ur ear against the handle and stick the tip were u suspect the noise comming from (if u think it's internal)

My car has the same problem... I replaced the starter and that wasnt' it. Now I tend to think its drive line related... sounds almost like a tamborene right?

Man do I feel stupid! Just wanted to publicly admit my ineptness.

I had my cam covers off checking for something rattleing around. I had so much stuff disassembled you'd have thought I was doing a teardown.

Turns out it was a loose bracket on my downpipe.

I know...what a f'n moron. I looked so hard for something huge I forgot the little obvious stuff. I wouldn't have found it still if it weren't for the fact that in addition to being a retard I'm also a klutz. I dropped a wrench and it hit the loose bracket duplicating the sound and the 25 watt light bulb in my head put it together. ahhhhrg!

Sorry guys and thanks for the help. I owe you one.
