Check Engine Light

I had the check engine light on since I've bought it. I finally found a pattern in it. It only appears once the turbo spools up. If I do low RPM driving w/o hitting boost range, then it will not come on. I'll pull the code tomorrow night, but I was just wondering what possibilities I may expect.

Right now, I'm guessing the turbo needs rebuilding (slight oil leak detected) or at least the seals to be replaced so I'll probably be asking where to go =P (located in Los Angeles). But this is my first turbo/manual transmission car, so I'm pretty lost =P (I've read up on how turbos work and stuff... but never really went into the technical spectrum)

Thanks,
Jeff

When your turbo is boosting, does it flash on, the car stutters like you lost power and then it goes off ???

If so, then = fuel cut

Hmm... actually that happens when I'm going a moderate speed (60-70mph) and start slowing down. It begins to sputter a little. The worst is when I'm coming to a stop from 4/5th gear. I push the clutch in and go to neutral. If the RPMs were above 3000 when I do that, it drops to near 0 and may shut off... lol... so now i make sure i give it some gas when doing that so the car doesn't die... but this may look like it's pointing the fuel system as well. I haven't been running past 3500 because I don't want to blow it up ^_^

I'll put some fuel cleaning additives in and see if it helps. I'm currently (first 1/2 tank fill since I got the car) using Chevron 91 grade fuel.

^ Mine did that when I first got it together. Kept driving it and a few days later it stopped doing it.

Double check all your vac lines, it sounds like one may be off

i'm not going to begin to guess unless you check the codes first. the possibilities are endless, really.

I've been putting it off =P Today is clean the car day so I'll get that done once I'm clear from waking neighbors up (damned straight pipe...)

Why would you procrastinate when it comes to checking the codes?
It's such a menial task... It's like procrastinating putting socks on...

The check engine light may just be coming on because the engine gets so near death that its practically shut off.

It like if you have the key in the on position with out the engine running. The check engine light is on right? Well in a normal situation thatll warn you when your engine cuts out.

I would say boost leak or vacuum leak.

Wow, its now taken you DAYS to check for codes. I know its a brutal 5 minutes of pain and torture but you can handle it.

lets see.. its probably the knock sensor. Search for knock sensor rewire. Until then re-set your ecu by pulling the EFI fuse in your fuse box (just for like 30 seconds). Watch and see which codes re-occour.

OH, and by code 12 I'd probably check the ignition timing.
