Check engine light causes..?

Lets see, well tonight i was showing some of my friends my car, so of course i decided to get on it. I'd been driving it a little bit harder than usual this evening, which is the only cause i can figure. I was going through the gears and in third there was a jolt, and the light came on and it felt like i was getting no more gas, was this fuel cut? i've never experienced it before. Does the check engine light usually come on during fuel cut? it was a very breif time the light came on, and it would cut back off. Of course immediately i slowed down dramatically, and checked everything out. Nothing out of the ordinary.. any thoughts/opinions?

you got fuel cut, or detonation and your comp set back your timing, check your engine codes and get your answer

how much boost? what mods??

3" DP, 3" exhaust, gutted cat, intake filter, upgraded 2.5" IC pipes and 1000 HP maxx autoworks intercooler, greddy type-s BOV, and boost controller @ 10 PSI or so.

if the light went back off after a few seconds after the jolt...yes thats fuel cut ...enjoy it

oh and what exactly is detonation?

detonation, it goes on when your gas is ignited and makes that explosion inside the combustion chamber, exept we refer to detonation as that, exept when it does it when its not supposed to. example the piston fires before the spark plug even does its job, doing its thing when you dont want it to. = detonation,

what octane you running just out of my curiousity?
