Charcoal Canister: lack of

My new replacement charcoal canister is on it's way courtesy of Tubbie, but it won't be here in time for a small road trip I'm taking. The car currently has a breather filter on the tube that leads from the gas tank into the engine bay. Since it's getting warmer gas fumes are starting to sneak their way in to the cabin. I don't want this happening on my trip to Salt Lake when they temps are in the high 90's.

Would it be advisable to attach a small hose, say a vacuum hose to the hose that the filter is attached to and lead it outside the engine bay so that the gases vent some where near the front right wheel? It's ghetto to the max but that's the only real solution I can think of.

Yes, that will work, the main thing is to keep the fumes away from the cabin.

If I remember right there's some sort of hole in the body of the car that the charcoal canister vents to right? I assume I can just snake the tube through that hole and stick the breather filter on it if there is room?

Just connect a vac hose to it and cut it so that it is long enough to be vented near the bottom of the DP.. Thats what i have done.

Cap: Might be safer to cap off the vent hose totally and grab a vented Gas Cap for this trip.

agreed this is what i did then i decided that the charcoal can was a waste of time. no problems with gas fumes here in tx!

You might want to look at the small JDM cannister they're quite compact and can be tucked away under the inner guard platics!

IJ - Do you happen to have a pic? I want to relocate my cannister and put an oil catch can in the stock cannister location.

this will work great. i just don't recommend filling the tank full, as gas will expand in hot conditions and possibly poor out the vented cap. especially if it sits for a bit without running. believe me. it happened to me. your paint will not appreiciate it.

Jdub: don't put the oil catch can where the charcoal cannister used to be. it's too hot there, and the oil won't liquify and "catch" there nearly as well as if you mounted it on the cold side of the motor. ;) if you search for a post i made about it, i have a diagram drawn up for a good way to route it.

IJ even gave me rep for it, so you know it's good. [/cockyness] :p
