1. Take old timing belt off gears.
2. slide old seals off
3. slide new seals on with a bit of grease.
4. rock on

I come from a land down under
2a: Put a thin coat of permatex #4 around the outside of the new seal and some grease around the inner lip this will let it slide into place and when the permatex sets it will stop the seal leaking or moving if you get blowby from engine wear.

Eric: Glad to help it's a real old school thing and most times doing it this way you can press the seal in 90% with your fingers so you don't deform it trying to hammer it in a light tap with a soft face hammer or piece of wood and you're all done!

I think Lanky was referring to these steps:

0 - pull off timing gear cover
0a - rotate front main pulley with a 17mm socket to align match marks on cam gears with notches in the rear cam gear cover plate
1a - remove cam gears.
3a - reinstall cam gears with the match marks on cam gears with notches in the rear cam gear cover plate
3b - reinstall timing belt
3c - rotate engine through at least 2 complete revolutions using 17mm socket on the front main pulley bolt
3d - verify that the match marks on the cam gears still line up with the marks on the rear timing gear cover plate, and that the main pulley shows the enging is still at Top Dead Center. If not, pull off the timing belt and try again.

the seals are designed to do the job without the goop/compound/stuff .
the manual suggests using motor oil .
i used the "goo" (permatex4)one time and developed a oil leak right away. i removed the goop and the leak was/is gone . maybe i didn't apply the goo nice and smooth which caused the problem .
the manual suggests applying "goo" to the edges of the bearing caps.
FYI
and IBM says you make the call
