Yesterday I changed my front main seal and today its dripping just as bad as before. i checked the cam seals while I was in there and everything looked fine. The old seal was obvoiusly cracked and broken so that was definitely the problem. Guess i gotta do it again next weekend, any advice to get it right this time?

How was the dampener surface where the seal rides???
There is a sleeve made that you can put over the dampener if there is a groove worn.

A new seal won't hold if there is a groove.

Also, I have seen (many cars) oil find its way out past the crank and dampener/keyway, and come out from under the bolt.

I always put some silicone gasket sealer around the big flange on the bolt before installing. This will seal it from coming out past the crank.

mkii: I would second that one! My dad's supra had the same issue. He replaced the front main and noticed it was still leaking a few weeks later. He replaced the pump seal and that sorted it.

when i had my 86 i kept popping seal after seal just like that. it makes it easier if you buy the oil dye and use a black light. one thing is definite, you'll be able to do the front seals practically blindfolded.
