Changed bulbs, now no power to fuel pump; WTF?

So I got the car inspected and registered, so I figured it'd be okay to install my clear rear sdiemarkers and front turn signals....

Easy job, finished late last nite, but when I go to start the car this AM.... just cranks no-start. I check the power at the fuel pump relay and there is none, not even when cranking. Checked all the obvious... EFI fuse, other fuses, replaced the Main EFI relay, etc...

I don't have a "check-engine" light now... dunno if that's a symptom, but I can't pull codes either. Would the circuit open relay 'cause that?

What did I trip up, by just changing the bulbs? Ran fine yesterday and I filled up about 30 minutes before I got home. Arrrrgggghhh

I forgot how the most "seemingly-unrelated" things affect so many other pieces in our MKIIIs....:icon_evil

If you just filled up it could be possible that you car is giving a flooded like symptom. I've had this problem before and has started by opening up the air filter box wide open and cranking. It has also started with a boost. I think that is is just a coincidense that it happened the morning after you changed your bulbs

I have a K&N filter on there, so no airbox.... It cranks and seems to have good charge.... Only thing different is the bulbs w/the clear lenses. The 2 rear sidemarkers are red bulbs, and the front turn signals are amber bulbs.

Here's the rundown so far.

1. No check engine light
2. Replaced EFI main and Open Circuit relays
3. Put power from B+ to Fp (to see if I could get fuel)... didn't work
4. Checked the fusible links, they look okay
5. Checked connections to ECU
6....Edit; Replaced the igniter too

I'm guessing that I must've shorted something out, which the Circuit Open relay is looking for. I don't get ANY clicks from the passenger-side kick panel... not even the starter relay. Good power to lights, radio, interior door lights, and antenna.

Just cranks... does not seem to have fuel or spark. BTW: this is a 90T/auto and has been driving fine for a few weeks (since the engine was completely installed with new engine harness). Done all the basic troubleshooting stuff... checked connectors, disconnected battery for a bit, "searched" the forums, etc, etc.

I did find a small, unconnected 2-wire connector near the antenna... yellow w/black stripe and a red wire. Can't seem to find what it goes to. I figured I'd check those areas where I worked last nite, to see if I accidentally messed sumthin' else up... near the rear sidemarker and front turn signals.

4 hours into this and still can't figure it out. I found this, disconnected near the antenna... can't find what it would go to. Yellow (w/black stripe) and red wires.... the red one has power, even with they key removed from the ignition.

Symptom(?): This might be normal, tho I've never seen it 'til now. Went to do a spark test and noticed that the headlights turn on for a brief second (but they remain closed), right when I go to crank the car. They turn off and I hear what I think is the headlight relay "click" a couple of times.

Replaced all the fusable links (just in case), still no check engine light...

I'm stumped....

Gonna check the ignition switch now, per TRSM. Not anything else left to check/replace, so I hope it pans out. I did find that the EFI Main isn't getting any power either, but I can't seem to find the "Fusible link Main2.0L," from the diagram attached...

no check engine light = blown 7.5 IGN (ignition) fuse in driver's kick panel. :)

did you check that ^^^ ? i also might add that the car will turn over, but never start without that fuse intact. ;)

Yeah.... went thru the TRSM troubleshooting deal and checked the light, right from the ECU and it does work, just not lighting up. The EFI main won't click and the more I check and the more I look, I am even more confused. It's almost looking like a dead ECU. I am going to see if I can borrow one, 'cause I've gone thru a few boxes and haven't found my spare ECU.

I still haven't checked the ignition switch itself, using the steps in the TRSM... so it's probably gonna be between that and the ECU.... everything else checks out.

I hope you figure it out. Im having teh same problems as you and Ive already tried a spare ecu, ignitor, cps, and coilpacks. ALSO I just put in a brand spanking new engine harness and still nothing. I just redid all ground wires as well, changed the IGN fuse like Shaeff suggested. My car has been down for 2 months since the rebuild was finished, and I havent driven this damn car in 2.5 years!!!! Im stumped myself. Im getting fuel, but inconsistent spark. I look foward to you finding a solution, as it may help me out as well. take care.

Ain't it crazy... I hadn't driven mine "consistently" in almost 3 years.

So, I dumped the 1JZ and the 2JZ projects and put a 7M back in (yeah, I know it's hilarious, but I just wanted to drive it again and enjoy it). Things have been looking good and then THIS!

I'm gonna play with it some more tonight and see what else I can figure out. I sure do hope it's something stupid... anything at this point.

Problem solved!

Went thru everything in the TRSM... all the steps. Finally got to the point where I had to check the ignition switch. Took the panels off to get to the ignition switch connector and it was COMPLETELY disconnected!!!

Dunnno how or why it got that way, but am going to zip-tie that sh!t together now!

NJsupraA70,
I know it seems silly after all the stuff you swapped (like I was doing), but follow each step in the starting and body-electrical troubleshooting sections of the TRSM. Like it just did me, it will make you validate everything needed to start.. even an obvious thing like this connector. Good luck!!
