I have searched for people who have had their pistons coated on sm and found a couple of threads about the issue but what i'm looking for is a reliable place to get this done at.

Has anyone done this to their pistons, turbo, and exhaust mani? if so, where did you get it done and how much did it cost you? And also how effective is this to our 7m engines? any input would be highly appreciated. thanks a lot

dang you guys seem like you coated your whole engine and car lol. especially you 1j. How much will this cost? I'm talking about ball park cause i would like to see if it is well worth it for my application. Plus did it throw any of your measurments off and or clearances? Did you guys have to do anything to compensate for the coatings? thanks again for your input

Shadi: I close the piston to bore clearence down a bit so it doesn't slap as the coatings keep them from expanding as much.

Sorry can't give even a ballpark figure as my bud gives me a "deal"

PM JDub here he does coatings so can give an estimate for what you want done.

Brent: Nope my guy says to bore the block first then coat.

Might be different for Teflon but I've never used it so can't say.

Hmm, seems to me it wouldn't matter...

My reasoning is: Coatings may have a higher standard deviation than say a machine that over bores... but I'm no expert on coating procedure. For all I know it could be an exact science far superior to block boring!

Speaking of boring... I'll be quiet now. :)

It just "helps" a bit and gives a greater margin for error.

A few years back I leaned an engine out badly enough to close the end gap on the rings this in turn trashed the bore and wore those rings really badly within seconds and normally would have trashed the pistons as well.

They were perfect not even the slightest sign of damage.

I ordered a set of CP pistons coated from the factory.
With 0.200" wall tool steel pins sporting a double pin oiling groove ;)
