I got a new carrier bearing for my 89 7mgte r154 tranny and theres a leg coming out of it at a 45deg angle on one side and i can't remember which side that faces when installed...

It's really bugging me cause I don't wanna put it on till I know for sure I've looked all over online and there's not a clear enough pic to distinguish and the epc diagram doesn't even show a leg coming out.

It goes on both ways so I Don't even know it makes a difference or not.

Yes, that is just the seam of the two outer shell halfs and that is spot where they come together. You will notice another tab on the other side. They are rototed off center like that because of the position it sits in the shaft tunnel does not allow it to be centered. Some of the really old ones have bolts that hold that seam together. The 5 or 6 loose ones I have around shop are all like yours, but my 87 turbo has a old bolt together one on it.

never thought there would be a question that is directed at what i do!!! lol. i am a machinest by trade and at my shop i specialize in drivelines. the hook you are referring to is actually like stated above, just where the seam comes together, no real purpose. and is offset just slightly to help with horrizontal angle.

as far as it being the exhaust hanger, at least on my 87t that is not true, i have a bracket bolted to the left of carrier on underbody of car if your facing the rear of car standing under it.

here is a list of the part numbers that i know of off the top of my head for our cars

neapco= 82-mid87- N223802

powertrain= 83-mid87 2380-20 / 88-92-1380-20 < (this should be what you have) 90-93- 2380-25

from what i have found spicer has not made a replacement for our cars. and for replacement u joint or carrier bearings, if you buy from autozone, kragens, or pepboys... be warned, there joints and c bearings are SHHIIIIIT!!!!

good brands in order are spicer, neapco, precision, meritor, and goes on from there. word of advice, over ANY of these brands, BUY THEM FROM THE DEALER!!!
