Is there one floating around here? Do I need to get a new one or can I go to a savage yard and pick one up...I just need a quick fix right now so I can afford to get a new wind shield. How much time should I set asside to replace this part and all that? What tools are needed so I can get this done and over with.

If you get a used one (unless it's almost brand new), you'll just be doing it again in a few months...you could post a WTB in the Want to Buy section of the MK III classifieds.
Jay Marks Toyota has them for ~$200 (Jeff Watson - 800-327-2087)

It's not hard to do, but you have to remove the drive shaft, basically 6 bolts...4 at the differential and 2 securing the center bearing to the body.

Another option is to get a single piece aluminum shaft and dump the center carrier...take a look at these guys:

$350 (shipped) for a single piece...ShaftMasters makes a very high quality, well balanced DS (I have one).
Do a search and/or read this review to see if this is what you want to do:

/\/\ Damn, I should get his DS. I did my carrier bearing about 2 months ago. Should done a write up. It was so easy I didnt think one necessary.
I just replaced the whole half of the DS that the carrier bearing is fixed on. Took no more than 30 minutes

do I need to take the two drive shafts appart to get the bearing off or does it slide off in the direction towards the trans?

I just want to know the procedure to do this to get prepaired and have all the tools I need cause I don't want to get stuck half way during the job LOL
