sometimes it starts and runs fine other times it wont start at all. I jumped the diagnostic port with a paper clip and the fuel pump is turning on, I can also hear fuel up at the rail when i do that. I just took out the spark plugs and checked them and rubbed the tips with sandpaper to clean them off and still wont start. it cranks but wont fire. Its a 7mgte. I dont have any money to throw at it right now so i need to diagnose it not just start replacing things. I also checked the connections to the coil packs and they are all fine. Any ideas on what I could do next is appreciated. Thanks, Matt-

edit: I also sprayed starter fluid up the air cleaner and it wont start

is it auto or 5sp? have you checked all the wiring for everything? does the starter crank all the time? is everything grounded? are all vaccum hoses connected properly? just regular trouble shooting, time consuming but its gotta be done

I took out the spark plug from the rear of the engine, closest to the windshield, and put the plug in the wire and held it while someone turn the car over and I didnt see any spark. Would this mean the coil is bad? Is there anything else I should be looking for? ****EDIT*** Its an automatic with problems, You have to manually shift it otherwise it takes off in 3rd. I dont think this would be related to not starting though.

I know my way around a chevy 350 but these supra's are completely different. The one I am working on was my sisters when she passed. My brother and I plan on fixing it up show quality some day. Unfortunately I rolled my daily driver, an 86 z28, and have to rely on the supra for the summer.

Bump, Is it the Coil? Looks like there are 3. How do you tell which one or if they are all shot. Or is there something else that will stop the spark from getting to the plug?
