This is my last ditch attempt to work out the cold start issues with Stinger before I get rid of it.

I *think* I've worked out my rich issues, but I won't know for certain until I can get my car started :nono:. Things I do know......

-My cold start is set 45%. I've tried lower settings, and it's too lean to start. Richer settings only causes back fires....

-My cold water temp comp is set at +15% @ 68 degrees. Anything more causes fouled plugs, no exceptions

-My cold air temp comp is set at +2% at 4 degrees, nothing out of the norm.

When I try to start the car, it fires once or twice, but that's it. One thing I did notice is that when it does fire, the BOV vents. I checked the timing comps, but nothing is added or taken away, and it does drive great when the car is warm.

I'm starting to assume that it's a timing related issue.....

Have you verified your timing?

What is your timing startup set at? Mine is set to about 22 for startup.

Just glancing at the tune file on my desk top, it's a 15 degrees. I'm almost positive that I remember seeing it at 12 degrees when reading from my ECU though....

Mark:

I know on the standalone race cars....

-Increased/Advanced timing, lots of fuel on inital crank
-Decreased/Normal timing not so much fuel after initial fire

Wait to ditch the stinger untill after Aaron @ Driftmotion gets back into town....

Thanks, I'll try to make adjustments tomorrow. I can't afford to be late to work again, especially due to a freakin car....

I'll be reading the above thread also. My car does similar things in the morning when it's cold. It'll crank, but it takes it about seven or eight times normally. Mine isn't to the extreme that Mark's is though. I would like it to start up the first try like it did on stock ecu.

My tuner sat in the car, and tuned mine down to -20C :)

It'll start in -35C pretty easily too.

Here's my current ignition table. Way too low on start up. I can bump it up based on water temp, but that will throw the other RPM ign #'s up too. Does anyone know what the stock ign numbers are?

Single most difficult thing to get right on any standalone Mark!

You get 1 go a day to test changes...

LOL, tell me about it. It's a lot more difficult than I had imagined. I have made some progress over the last month or two though

Is it more logical to add timing below 500rpm in the ign table (all the time, only to 500 & below) to get it to crank or should I add it through the water temp table (only when cold, but to the whole rpm range)?

Mark: You're going to hate me for this but the fuel I run makes Cold starts really easy to set up as the fuel system is rich when cold and LPG fires really easily... sorry ;)

You're right, that makes me hate you :sarcasm:. I have thought about setting up an E85 map though :naughty:

I would send you a map but it is just a window with one parameter that defines startup ignition.

Regardless of temp, start ign is always set the same on mine. I have the crank fuel modified to increase with temp differences.
