So i've been fighting a problem for about 2-3days now my car has ben burning oil(Can smell it all the time).

It only seems to come out of the exhaust on decel or when the rpms are coming down. but you can smell the car burning oil constant.

Also the car started to not won't to start it cranks cranks cranks (Backfires) no start. wait for 3mins try again boom starts.

Both problems came from no where. and both started when i changed my spark plugs any thoughts?
It seriously started smoking right after i installed the plugs and it started not starting maybe the 3rd time i tried starting the car after the plugs.

Could i have forgot to hook something up?
Got a bad plug?(It is not missing)
Could the Plug not be Torqed enough?
Bad wires?
Bad coils?

Old Plug NGK (BCPR6EGP) .38 gap(Never had these problems but i was missing thru pulls)

New Plug NGK (bk7re) .28 gap

I just want to make sure its not something little be for i go ripping off the head to replace things.

Anyhelp i am grateful for.

does your spark plug socket have a rubber grommet inside of it?
the grommet helps keep everything straight...if not installed and your not careful this will happen

as far as oil smell
i would suspect turbo is shot
have you checked for shaft play?
remove intercooler piping and inspect for oil residue
if that checks out fine
disconnect breather tubes off valve cover...make sure to place something inside tubes so it doesnt leak...test drive
smoking should stop after 10-15minutes(depending on how bad its smoking)

if your turbo is bad there is 1 for sale on here
completely rebuilt

i bought this turbo off of him

we chatted for a while and gave me his back ground and what he does to these turbos
seem to be good buys and should hold IMO

Shaft play on turbo seems normal nothing extreme (same as its always been) no Oil in the IC pipes.

The smoking doesn't happen all the time its comes and goes for 5seconds at a time and only comes at the exhaust when the rpms are dropping down. Most of the time unless your lookin close you can't even see the smoke. every now and then it gives you a decent puff of it. Definitly oil tho.

another thing my runs super rich back fires alot and shoots flames sometimes. but other then then the burnin oil and backfires and it not starting all the time since i did the plugs the car runs great still pulls strong.

try putting bkr6e plugs in...thats what im running
your not going to have oil usage just from changing plugs
how does it idle?
did you replaced spark plug wires as well?
recheck firing order
from passenger side coil over the firing order is 1-6-3-4-2-5

then front plug is 1, 2nd is 2 and so on

i bet your just running really rich and its not oil your smelling its fuel
is the vaccum hose to fpr installed?

Firing order is correct and so the hose to the FPR is hooked up

I did not do the wires.

But why would it not be wanting to start now?

mmm wierd
only thing i can think of is you have something uplugged or out of time if its not wanting to start
or maybe you spark plugs are soaked in fuel maybe

is the tps, iac, afm, coil pack harness, cps connectors all plugged in

any check engine codes?

Ive been fighting with a TPS (41) for some time now but i think i might have solved that problem.

I get (34) Fuel cut? and also have gotten a (24) AFM? ive changed out my AFM to a different one and still got the code eventually. although none of these codes are keeping the Cell on just stored..

All sensors and Vaccum hoses are hooked up correctly i tore everything down today and went over it time and time again.
Ill check my timing tonight.

Changing plugs does not turn your car into an oil burning machine.....
I was just hoping i guess if there was anything in the process i might have fouled up to cause this.. Im gonna see what i can do about fixing the o2 sensor and maybe thats the smell.. although i thought it was oil (color seemed to point towards oil also) but im wrong alot just ask my girlfriend lol. :) thanks for the help Jonah. and as always thanks for the help Hvyman

no problem
glad i could help
is the broken wire on the harness side or o2 sensor side?

also if you have code 41 and your sensor is completely shot then your car wont start
try throwing a noid light on a fuel injector and have a friend crank the car to see if it blinks
im thinking your tps has gone completely bad
also unplug your afm...try to start
if it starts then you yet again have stumbled upon a busted afm or bad wiring/connections

It's on the harness side of the plug.

Car starts most of the time. And when it doesn't just have to wait a couple minutes and it will. I'll check it all out though. Thanks for the tips greatly appreciated
