I bought a none running 86.5 MKIII that was originally a non turbo 5 speed but then swapped to a 7MGTE. I have traced the problem to the coil pack ignitor ( have a new one on order ). But i have also noticed that the car stays on when the battery is connected. The fuel pump regulator makes a buzzing sound and the dash lights stay on, like the key is turned to Acc on the ignition. Im not sure what to do other than install a big switch inbetween the battery and the car.

I know practically nothing about the supra so if you have any insight please put it in noob terms.

Thanks

That little black button that says lock on it right next to the ign cylinder....Push it in and turn the key to lock.

Sorry, im just frustrated. I have been working non stop on this car to get it running and now this. Anyways i have done some research and found that it may be the ignition switch. Any thoughts on that?

Could be.

If the keys worn might need some wiggling as well. Could also try some lock lube(not just wd40).

its not hard to take the ignition switch off, take off the columb covers and its 1 screw. the using your key or something similar, turn the switch manually and see if it shuts off

Turns out i have more problems then i thought. I paid $60 for a mobile mechanic to come out and diagnose whats wrong with the car. Basically i have voltage in my grounding system that is completely screwing over the electrical system. Car is being towed to a mechanic tomorrow. This mechanic only deals in the supra and he says he can find it or rewire the car for about $100. Sounds promising. Im not giving up on my MKIII, even though i have yet to even hear it run.

Great news! The mechanic knew exactly what to do and look for. The ground wire for the ecm was connected to the positive side of the starter. A little rewiring and it started right up, well after we got it timed again. This guy is great, he fixed the car and is reconnecting all of my vacuum lines and soldering some wires for me. All for $100. I finally have my mkIII running!
