Ok I have an older sony deck in my jeep cherokee with the mounting bracket and junk. I want to remove it and replace it with a newer sony deck. Question is can I remove the old deck without pulling all the jeep dash trim apart? I thought Ive seen a tool that will release the deck from the mounting bracket and slid the deck right out. I cant seem to find what the tool is called or where to get it.

Well your first problem is that you have a Sony deck, the second is you want another one!:biglaugh: But seriously, Sony deck are pretty crappy, I'm surprised it hasn't scratched the hell out of all your disc! I don't know of a tool that can do that because most harnesses are screwed in. Unless the dash is a one peice, it shouldn't take more than an hour(if it is, I'd say about 2 hours), so there's no need to look for an easy way out.

I havent had any problems with sony decks. I keep burned cdrs in the car anyways(desert heat melts cds anyways). So let the thing scratch them, it hasnt ruined 1 cd though ever.

The newer deck I want to put in the jeep doesnt have a screw in harness though. Its in my supra right now and I know I didnt screw the harness in lol.

I really thought the mounting bracket was screwed down behind the trim. Then, the deck slid into it and is held with clips and can slide right out. If I can do that in a few seconds Vs tearing the trim all out Id rather do it.

I do know what you are talking about but I have no idea what they are called. It makes it possible to pull the deck out of the cage, leaving the cage in the vehicle. Call a local stereo shop, they use them.

i'm bad, i'm nationwide
think he is talking about a din-removal tool

think ford, a glorified piece of wire, shaped like a u, with hooks at both ends, they slide into the four holes on either side of the deck.

iirc stereo manufacturers use their own version to release the decks from their "cans"

i've had a couple of cherokees, and iirc, they use bolts behind the trim bezel, to mount their radios, shouldn't take but like four or six screws to pull the bezel off, any you will have a better idea, but it has been a while, i coould be wrong
