Just curious for those of you out there, what does it cost to register your Supra, for one year? Mine are as follows and seem rather high...

89 Mk3: $127
84 Mk2: $86

Granted, I don't have to go through or deal with emission testing, so it *kinda* balances out, but I still feel like we get a bit shafted up here.

Last one is a vanity tag, so that's what the extra fees are. We pay "tax" on each vehicle each year here based upon it's book value... We also have to pay emissions on each vehicle which runs $15 - $25 depending on where you go. It's bullshit, but it is what it is. :(

Registration doesn't exist outside the US in the sense that once you own a car, you don't need to continually pay for it - unless you're using it on public roads. In the UK, road tax for pre-2001 vehicles is calculated on two tax bands for engine size:

1500cc or less, and 1500cc or more. For the latter band, for the Supra's, i'd have to pay $300ish each, plus a yearly inspection ($90).

In France, there's no road tax, or registration so i only pay for insurance, and inspection every other year.

On Guernsey (where i'm having them registered), there's no road tax, no registration, or inspection, needing only insurance (even that was optional until 1997!).

That in a sense could be even worse, taxes based on book value? Price on some cars is only likely to go up in that case... I believe here in WY, we pay based on factory MSRP for the car. My 89 is listed at something like 27k for original MSRP, my girlfriend's Mazda3 is only like $90 this year. It is absurdly expensive for the first few years of ownership, but after that it levels out. Still sucks, but...

...it seems like Kai takes the cake here, if I'm understanding this correctly? Is a typical Supra in the UK $300 *per year*, or a one time fee of $300 and then a $90 inspection fee? If it's the former, holy crap...

Yep. I miss having AZ plates, but up here you'll get ticketed if you don't change your plates within 3 months of living here. Sucked, because I moved up here right after buying a 2 year plate... Still have that one, "BHG_LOL". Makes a good decoration.

Thats $300 per YEAR. It started going down once the new government came in - used to be about $320. Cars post 2001 have an A to F efficiency rating (based on CO2 in kg/m emitted), so someone in band A pays nothing, someone in band B pays $50 a year, whereas someone in band F pays $2000 a year. Anything that gets Band E or less now, incurs a 'gas guzzler tax'...thats anything that gets less than 27mpg, roughly.

Holy cattle man, that's insane! Granted, I could have fun with a car that gets those kind of figures, but it wouldn't be a factory built car... and not sure how kind the UK MOT inspections are for things built in your garage... :nono:

Well, you made me feel worlds better about paying $127 per year Kai, thanks! :D

lol at $127 seeming high!

The total amount for registration & compulsory insurance in my state in Australia is $789/year :aigo:
That includes the base registration fee which is $208/year...

US 1, Australia 0 in this case...

Work/family, plus the job market in AZ sucks.

Well if you throw insurance into the mix, it can range WILDLY. I pay ~$600 USD for insurance for the Mk3 and Mk2 per year, but a $208 registration fee is absurd. Your toilets flush backwards, your deer have pouches on their bellies, you have 9/10 of the world's most dangerous animals, AND your summer is winter to us. Stupid Australia. :nono: ;)
