Would anyone be able to tell me if there is anything other then candy paints that let the base coat shine through. Trying to find a silver paint to work with and its becoming kinda difficult.

are you using silver as your base? what are you wanting as your final color? candy paints are the only ones that are transparent unless you duse a pearl over top of like white or silver then it would become the color of the pearl depending on how much pearl you use in your mixture

hmm

you don't know what candy paints are :)

Kandy paints are a paint SYSTEM. The top most layer, think of it like clear with color. Kandy apple blue, red, yellow etc. But that is only one part. The hard part is the middle metallic coat which WILL show any and all mistakes worse than black paint will.

btw the BEST kandy colors come out of House of Kolors. No if's and's or doubts about that ;)

no that is not a kandy color.

Silver is a metallic paint and is not translucent meaning that the base coat can be diaharrea brown and it won't matter as the top coat WILL be silver period regardless of basecoat color.

I knew it wasn't a kandy color, I was just wondering if I could get some sort of a transparent silver color or was a way to make one. Which is why I was wondering if there are any other paints other then kandys that are translucent. eviltwins said pearls are kinda like that but there still isn't a silver color that is a pearl either I don't believe.

Choose your base coat color (ie: silver, blue, white, etc.)

Pearls and kandy's are topcoats

Decide what effect you want out of the paint. (stock= base+clear)

There are many kandy and pearl colors available. Kandy is going to give you a really rich paint look to the base coat, bringing out the vibrant colors of the base coat.

Pearls are going to give you a different effect depending on light conditions. I don't think pearls are as vibrant as kandy top coats.

since the silver isn't a very vibrant color like reds or blues, a pearl would look best.

Pearls:
Base coat (color?) + Top coat (pearl color?) + Clear coat

Kandy:
Same as pearl except the top coat is the Kandy. Base+kandy top coat+clear coat.

Well maybe this would work better if I described better what I am looking for. I was trying to decide what color of blue I had been wanting to paint the car lately. A few days ago I was playing a game and saw a picture of colossus from x-men. That got me thinking that the color of his metal skin would be an amazing looking for a paint job. It was kind of a blue or ice looking metal or polished look. I will see if I can find a picture of that color and post it but thats kinda what I was going for. I know I couldn't do the polish look as it would bother people driving when I was driving at day but figured I may be able to pull off a silvery blue look.

I know what your talking about now. Your looking for an anodized look. I think Kandy is the only top coat that will give this effect. First, look through a paint book sample and choose you color of blue for a base coat. Next, confirm with the painter if a Silver or blue Kandy top coat will create the anodized look. Third is clear coat.

My car is being painted with a white basecoat and a silver Kandy. the light color basecoat and topcoat, along with the clear is going to create a glass like effect. Basically it is going to look like white with a silver metallic, and the silver topcoat and clear coat is going to give it that clear crystal look.

yep.. my wife worked for the house of colours in sc and the blue kandy paints will give the same effect as anodized if its over the right kind of base like silver or white etc. i wqas going to paint my supra at one time as i call it nissan skyline blue and he was going to use metallic silver with blue kandy paint over it and i think 440 clear it was going to be deep .
