Ok so I've been at this for two days now. When I bought the car there was a viper alarm system in it but the previous owner of the car got sick of it not working correctly so he tried to take it out. In the process he pulled a random wire and ever since the car hasn't been able to start just using the ignition (we clutch kicked it to get it started when I bought it). I am a computer engineering student so the wiring thing didn't scare me, so me and my brother have managed to remove the alarm system and restore all of the factory wiring. Now the car still won't start, but you can hear the starter engage, it'll click, but the engine won't turn over. I talked to my dad about this and he said the battery is probably dead or dying and there isn't enough current getting to the starter to turn the engine over, but before I mess with that I was wondering if maybe it might be the factory alarm not letting the starter engage? Your comments and your $.02 will be gladly appreciated! Oh and I also checked the diagnostic thingy and there are no codes being thrown. Thanks in advance!

I think if the factory alarm was the problem, the starter wouldn't even click. That sound is the solenoid engaging. It sounds like the acutal starter motor is not getting power.

Could be the battery. I'd test that first either by jumping or my swapping batteries with a known good one and see what happens.

Just last week my (autozone starter 3months old) died on me same exact symptoms. 3 trips to autozone to find an exact replacement that tested good in their tester. Swapped it Voila solved the problem. My old one tested good at 2 out of 3 Autozones then finally failed which is what I experienced in my own vehicle.

Not sure if this is related but this failure was preceded by me leaving the ignition on all night, (accidently) didnt run the battery and cant figure why this would affect it but figured I would include all info.

Yeah I decided that it was probably the battery, so I went to get it tested and found out it was dead. So I just put in a new battery and...the same thing, just the clicking sound. It's weird though because the starter will only click when the HVAC is on any setting but off and then when I turn the lights on, the display on the HVAC for temperature goes out. So I think something back there might be messed up. I have run out of ideas though...any other suggestions?

Ok so I've been thinking about this for like 2 hours now. So if the factory alarm was disabled, but the hood sensor was still connected and the orange/blue wire was not cut and grounded but still one wire, could that possibly be part of the problem?

yeah it was that friggin alarm. When the aftermarket alarm was installed they took out the factory alarm computer and just left the harness in there. So when we took out the aftermarket alarm, the theft deterent line never went low so the starter wouldn't engage. And what I thought was the starter clicking was actually the AC condensor. I had someone stand with their head jammed in the engine bay to find out what was clicking, haha, and he was like...yeah I think it's the AC. So after that I just cut the blue/orange wire, grounded it and cut the hood sensor wire and spliced them together and the car started right up. God bless the TSRM or I would've gone nuts trying to figure this thing out.
