Car locks, then unlocks

What would cause the power door locks to unlock themselves? I know not having the ignition in the off position or having the key in the ignition, but what else? The problem started today, whenever I press the power locks, the car will lock then unlock. same goes when I use my keyless remote, the car will lock, arm alarm, and then unlock with alarm still armed. Only way to lock the doors and keep them that way is using the key on the drivers door.
I don't even know where to start :icon_conf

sounds like it has something to do with the aftermarket alarm. the stock alarm will unlock the doors if the keys are still in the ignition but also the stock alarm will not arm if the keys are still in the ignition.
check all your wiring - did you crimp or solder?
maybe a defective aftermarket unit?

Im not sure how the Alarm was wired, because best buy installed it when I baught it. Ive had this setup for over a year with no problems! Another thing I noticed is that when I press back on the power door unlock button nothing happens! It doesnt matter if the car is on or off. The reason I think the stock alarm can still arm when I lock it with the key, is the car realizes that the key cant be in the ignition since Im using it to lock it? So could this have anything to do with the lock Actuators?

just found:
the unlock function is a funciton of the door lock control relay not the stock security system. and only does it if a. key in ignition AND b. door open.
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/Wiring/pages/Page_092.html

edit:does the dash 'security' led light when doors lock? that will tell you if the stock alarm is still active or not.
If they left the stock alarm active they need to have isolated it with some diodes. If they didn't, the stock alarm may be getting stray signals.
You can defeat the stock alarm, to run some test, by unplugging the hood sensor and jumpering the wiring harness plug.

Yes the dash security light does come on when I use the key from the outside to lock the door. See, for the pass year I have had both alarms in use. For example, when my turbo timer was on I would lock the door from the inside, shut the door, which would set the factory alarm, Then I would use the key to get in. If I did not use the turbo timer and just turned the car off I would just shut the door and use the aftermarket alarm pad to lock the door and arm it. Then use the keyless entry to unlock and disarm aftermarkt alarm. If the door unlock function only works in those two cases, it has to be thinking the key is in the ignition. So do you think my greddy turbo timer could have gone bad or have a bad ground which is making something in the ignition go wrong?
P.S. thank you very much for the fast replys and the help, I really don't know what to do!

Okay so I have the door panel off, the ingition covers and everything else so I can see all the wires. I didnt find anything loose.. I also tried unpluging the turbo time and hooked up the ingition by itself but when I pressed the locks got the same thing. What could just go bad to do this?

try this. Disconnect the Unlock Warning Switch. It is only closed if key is in the ignition. Then try using the lock switch to lock the doors.
two wire black connector *L* at the bottom of this page
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/Wiring/pages/Page_093.html
connector U1 on this page
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/Wiring/pages/Page_024.html

this should rule out the factory automatic unlock system.
might then try completely disconnecting the aftermarket unit and repeat locking doors with door switch.

Okay yeah I believe thats the right one then. this is a pic of it
If that was correct then thats not the problem, because it still wouldnt lock. Only other connector I saw was one that was connected to the bottom of the ingition switch. this one

So if I have done everything right with this and the turbo timer, does this mean its my aftermarked alarm messing up somehow?

try the second one. it is a switch that is closed only if the key is in the ignition and that one looks like it's right on the ignition switch.

edit: is the top one just the other end of the bottom one?

okay yeah Im pretty sure the first switch was the right one after looking at it again.. the second pic doesnt have anything to do with, it is the green light for the switch. okay so I disconnected the switch and try locking it but it still unlocked. So I tried locking it with the key and it took about 7 times to finally get it to stay locked but the alarm didnt arm? So I was thinking it was because of the switch. So now I re-connected the switch and put the turbo timer back in but I havent been able to keep it locked even by using the key! Does that tell you anything?

Edit- I just figured something else out. I can not unlock my doors at all. Pressing the power unlock doesnt do anything, and when I press unlock on the keyless entry all it does it beep the alarm, but doesnt move the unlock at all.. so really the only way to unlock the car is to try to lock it lol.

i was wondering if it was for the illumination ring too, but the wiring diagram shows that to be a red/red-yellow wired connector
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/Wiring/pages/Page_068.html
of course it is for an 89. what year do you have

it wasn't because of the switch. if it is the right one then all it is doing is saying the key is not in the ignition, with it unplugged.

with the ignition off, key out of ignition, unplug your aftermarket unit. sit inside with all doors an hood closed and use the switch to lock the door. the doors should lock and the factory alarm should arm.

have you checked all the connections they made, aftermarket alarm to factory wiring harness? are any connections loose, exposed, grounding out?

have you looked at the like i posted to the alarm wiring diagram? if they did not isolate your factory alarm from the aftermarket, then who knows what has happened.

i'm about out of ideas, sorry

its a 90 and I don't see any loose or exposed connections. To be honest I don't have a clue how to unplug the aftermarket unit.. there are wires everywhere! If I knew it was the aftermarket alarm for sure that was messing up then I would take it back to best buy and get them to fix it. Now that I see that there arent any buttons working for the unlock, couldnt that mean that some type of relay has gone bad for the actual door locks?

Okay well I just went out there a pulled a connector that went into the aftermarkt unit. I have power locks unlock and lock, but only with the door lock. the keyless still doesnt work, and the factory alarm will not arm.. I do feel better now that something is actually working even though it is still messed up. Thank you soo much for all the help, most people wouldnt take the time to help me like you. I guess Im going to go out there and pull some different connectors and see what happens.

what kind of aftermarket do you have? might look for a box that has that name on it.
might look for a box that is just tucked up under the dash, maybe even zip tied to something. it should look out of place as it won't have a factory mounting place.
if it has a starter defeat then it will have two large gauge wires going to it and then another connector with multiple wires going to it. might find some wires that have wire nuts or wire splice connectors then follow the non stock wire back to wherever it goes.

your wires should be, for the most part, like the ones i've been linking to. 89-92 have the same ecu connector. some miscellaneous wires may be different colors or a connector or two may be different, but for the most part you can be confident doing all your troubleshooting with that site.

looks like you found it. with the aftermarket unpluged the keyless won't work.

no telling what has happened to the factory alarm if they spliced into it's wires and didn't isolate it.

glad to help, i've been helped plenty by others here.
hopefully we can figure out what has happened to the factory alarm

Okay nothing is wrong with the factory alarm, I forgot that the hood wasnt completly closed, once I closed it everything works. I only have that one connector unhooked from the aftermarket one, I left everything else hooked the way it was. Im going to put everything back together now and be happy that everything factory is working like it is suppose too, plus turbo timer.. I will deal with the aftermarket problem another day. once again thanks
