car gets really hot

not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but i need some advice.
my 90 supra gets VERY hot under the hood. the temp gauge gets to half way and stays there, but the under hood temps are ridiculous. i'm also having a lot of heat coming from the shifter area. it's to the point that it's uncomfortable for my right foot and the shifter is too hot to touch.
the electric fan works and i'm not losing any coolant, but i added some water wetter today as a "band-aid".
i literally have to let the car sit for hours before i can touch anything under the hood. this doesn't seem normal to me. i've had turbo cars before, and have never had this problem.
please help. is there a fix for this? is this the way they all are?
any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thanks........... kevin

Sounds about normal to me, I couldn't drive mine in bare feet as the dead pedal would burn me.

There's very little ventilation under the hood when you're not moving so it will heatsink everything, as long as the engine isn't showing signs of heat stress it'll be fine.

yeah, it's pretty damn warm. do you think putting the stock clutch fan and shroud back on will help? the electric one i have doesn't sound too healthy. i'm also thinking about getting a turbo blanket.

Only thing that seems odd I live in Arizona and my car never gets that hot. today it was 110 degrees (F) only Cooling upgrade i have is Driftmotion Intercooler Kit.\

But i think that could be a not so good Fan setup IJ is right the stock Fan setup works decent enough.

Although i do want to go to electric fan setup and better radiator just because it looks cleaner in the bay.

My temp runs about 220F with the A/C on (today it was 118F out) I have a brand new radiator, Water pump, Ford Taurus Fan, No thermostat but restricted flow at the housing and it likes to stay at about 210-225F. I have Drift motion intercooler, big trans cooler, along with the condenser and radiator. Still thinking about going to a GTE Clutch fan.

225*f is way to hot. If you had a stat it would prolly stay around 190-200 since the stat opens up at 190.

Removing is not smart. Old muscle car guys used to do it back in the day thinking it was good. Although soon as they went on a longer drive there car would over heat.

Its not when you are in 100+ weather, in fact with longer idle times (with AC on) Ive seen higher temps on a completely new cooling system with everything in tact + koyo radiator and Tundra fan clutch. Keep in mind, the stock gauge supposedly doesn't move from the normal just below halfway position until around 240 degrees f.

I have run a 190F T stat. Its the same for me. It still runs at 200-220 all the time. Its how its always been however I have much better luck with the center of the T stat removed open just restricted. Come out here with the A/C on and do some WOT pulls in 118F ambient temp. Guarantee it over heats.

Stock gauge doesn't even go passed middle until around 245 ish like cyfi said.

I lived in Vegas before. Car never got that hot with or without ac. I don't wot with on either. Condenser heats up the rad enough as it is.

Idk why but under my hood it gets WAAAAY TOO HOT. I have the BOV in the driftmotion intercooler kit location & its already melted two BOV check valves. Ive heat wrapped it & still too hot. If the BOV was a frying pan i could cook eggs on it, & something is apparently wrong with my temp gauge.

You guys recommend me getting an aftermarket?

If its right over the turbo with no heat shield you need to put one on. Also cheap bov suck.

is there any benefit to installing a lower temp thermostat?

No, it will delay it getting to correct op temp so might give you a little longer before the system heat soaks and hits it equilibrium point but overall temps are governed by the system as a whole.
