Car blows alot of smoke

Hey guys,

I own a 1986.5 MA70 with a 7M-GE. Not too long ago my car got abit fkt up and I got the head gasket fixed.

The head got machined and re-shimmed new OEM headgasket was installed.

Now when I had the engine apart I noticed the cylinders 5 and 2 were slightly damaged/worn. I wanted to change the pistons at the time but my dad insisted it would be ok...

Anyways now I find that the car misses occasionally and blows alot of smoke most of the time. (although my dad thinks the missing is due to leaking spark i tihnk he's only part right.)

Ok so what I want to do is change the pistons or just the piston seals at least... BUT.. without changing the headgasket... is that possible?

am I able to take the pistons out by taking off the crank and not have to re bore the cylinder??

I will change the ignition coil first to double check but I was wondering if the pistons not sealing could be a likely cause or if its unheard of.

also the reason for me being so stingy is the fact that I would like to upgrade to a 1JZ-GTE but am not in a position to do so atm, but still require a working car that's not going to be targeted by police/epa...

to replace piston rings you will need to strip down the motor..best thing is to get a motor out of a MX83 cressida and put that in with your rear sump! should be able to pick one up for around $100 - $400. I got my one that was rebuild appoxx 14xxxkm ago and shes mint :aigo:

Are you sure that that is the problem, compression test would some what narrow it down.

What color is the smoke and under what conditions is it coughed up?

Smoke is white? usually taking off from the lights it'll give a little puff. occasionally it'll puff out for abit when I first start it. and on the freeway sometimes when the revs are at about 3200

White smoke headgasket, blue smoke rings or valve seals

Not neccassarily. Be careful on the advice you give/receive. White smoke is NOT only and always the head gasket.

My advice is for you to do a leak down test, and report back.

yeah I just changed the headgasket. so i'd say rings/pistons are more likely but i could be unlucky...

whats the leak down test
