If you love the twisties, I have found a place for you!
I was on my way from Wyoming to Arizona, so I took I-25 south through Colorado and New Mexico. Well, past Santa Fe and Alburquerque I saw that there was a way to bypass Las Cruces by taking a route going to the southwest, potentially saving time on a diagonal route instead of going south [and slightly east!], then west on I-10.
Southbound on I-25, exit 63 going towards Silver City and go west when you exit the interstate. You will drive straight for awhile through a couple of small towns, and eventually you will come to a couple twisties [nothing big]. After you pass the small town of Kingston, there are tons of twists and turns! The pass goes through the Gila National Forest, and gives a whole lotta fun all the way through to Silver City. I had to drive through in a big Chevy van, so it was not quite as fun, but with a Supra I'm sure I would have got that good old feeling.
After you get to Silver City, the twists stop. The best way out is to either fuel up and go back [for more fun] or to drive straight through town towards Lordsburg, which is a 30-45 minute decent drive through some more nice rock/cliff/forest areas with more up/downs than twists [it's a good drive to cool down and mellow-out on]. Lordsburg is right on I-10 in the southwestern part of New Mexico, and would be an easy place from which to navigate home.
Anyone in the position to do so, fuel up, be safe and enjoy!
