Okay.. So I did a GE to GTE swap.. blah blah. Anyways, I got a r154 driveshaft but there's a problem..

When I go and slide the slip yoke onto the output shaft on the transmission, it will slide on approx 2inches and stop going in any farther. If I try to ram it in, it seems to hit somthing "solid" and kinda gets wedged in there.. But it isnt metal on metal.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I can stick a flat head screwdriver in there atleast 4 inches, but if i turn the screwdriver head sideways and try to put it in it keeps hitting something like the bushing?

This is a real pain in the ass, I need my car and toyota wants like $500 for a new exstension housing.. and ideas what I can do.. or if there's some crazy trick to installing it..? Or is it sledgehammer time?

Thanks

If the drive shaft is from a na supra it will not fit :3d_frown: ,You need one from a turbo supra.:icon_razz

Thanks

*edit, besides mk3brent*
^don't know what those replies were all about. since you had a GE motor, you have the w58 tranny. you bought a driveshaft made for the r154. why did you replace the driveshaft?

Sorry, I dropped in a 7mgte along with a r154 tranny. Id rather not blow up my w58. :icon_bigg

The r154 driveshaft wouldnt slide onto the w58 output shaft at all because of the spline difference correct?

I don't remember how far my DS stuck into the tranny the last time I pulled it out...

But how far off is the rear 4 bolts from the differential?

(also, what are the spline counts for the automatic DS and length?)

Not sure about the diff holes.. but the front shaft on the auto DS i had 23 splines and was only 10 1/2 inches long and the r154 shaft was 12" long. This is just the front shaft frome behind the u-joint to the flange by the carrier bearing. There is almost a 1 inch gap between the two cup like things.. I know it isnt in far enough.

Frome the carrier bearing to where it mounts up it is about an inch to an inch and a half away from it.
