So I just picked up this 87 supra N/A. It had a high idle around 2k. So me and a friend checked if the belt was timed with the crank and at zero the cam marks pointed up matching the marks on the back plate of the cam cover and it did. Then tuned the distributor to 10 degrees. But when the car was at operating temp I give it a bit of gas and it wants to die out. So I checked the vac lines and replaced some that were cracked. Then last night we messed with it some more and couldn't get it to 10 degrees. Then when we tried to rotate the distributor back and forth to set it right the closest we got to ten was 23 ish. Every time we would try to just move it one tooth it wouldn't be right. I don't know what else to do I'm at 1500 idle when the car is at operating temp with no power when I give it gas. I also wanted to know it there is a difference between a n/a exhaust cam and a turbo exhaust cam? Can anyone one help me out I'm in Fresno CA?

Did you jump te1 and e1 when setting the timing? Also is the idle screw on the throttle body maxed out? How does it drive?

Best to just start over with setting the cam/crank timing to tdc comp stroke and reinstall the dist, jump the terminals and set timing.

Im in merced and can help if you come up here. Where having a little bbq meet at my friends house for my bday on sunday. More than welcomed to come. There should be other supras from fresno coming as well. Pm me if interested in coming.

I come from a land down under
Might also want to verify that the mark on the Damper is actually at TDC before going further.

Pull #1 plug rest a wood chop stick on the piston and careully turn the crank with a 19mm socket on the damper and watch the stick, when it stops at the top compare the mark to the Timing case.

The dampers have a habit of debonding and slipping and giving an incorrect TDC.

I already am a member of cencal. That is what I want to do put something in #1 one and turn it. Just don't have time till Saturday. So when I do get tdc mark the crank and that will be zero? I would love to go on Sunday what time and where I have a friend with a 87 cressi whit a 5speed swap that wants to go but work Sunday so if it in the mid afternoon I think he will be down. But if not I still want to hang out.

Don't know how to do that I found a thread about it but didn't read much into it.

why do you need to jump the terminals to set the timing? I wonder if that is my problem now with my timing a bit advanced more then I would like.

It locks the ECU into a set mode so it's not changing the timing while you adjust it.

ahh so my old school tactic may not have worked haha I know how to set the timing on the car but maybe this is way I am having troubles because now the ecu is fighting the portion I set? I have BC cams and it runs near 15 which I do not like. I am going to try the terminal tactic and reset the timing and see if that helps :)
