Is it possible to start the car with no transmission?

Im on the verge of getting my 7MGE back into the car but I really dont feel like dealing with the transmission today.

Edit: manual transmission BTW.

The starter bolts run through the transmision so I do not see how unless I am missing something.

Like: Why you would want to?

With a 91-92 starter and some shims you could, but I wouldn't recommend putting that kind of force on the cover. Or take the bellhousing off the tranny and mock the starter up long enough to start the car.

Good info Bishop, I did not know they varied in years. I would also worry that with no tranny mount installed you should make sure the fan is going to clear the shroud.

Yeah 91-92 got a threaded starter (its also approximately 25% lighter and smaller) instead of the old nut/bolt combo, the bolts thread directly into the starter.

Yep. And much easier to install with out a lift in my opinion.

yellow: it's MUCH easier (in my opinion) to put the motor/tranny in together. (with them bolted together) i've always done it that way. it's super easy, and then you don't have to struggle with those upper bellhousing bolts.
