Guys i've had nothing but headaches with my car..... hesr is my situation.... i replaced bhg with metal hks 1.2, sent head out to have it checked and machined, before reassembly, i went over the block with a straightedge and check for warpage tolerances as per tsrm. what i found was very slight warpage between cyl.5&6. didn't think of having block milled..... now i have compression into cooling system after driving. my question is two fold, first of all i would like to know if it is possible to just lift cylinder head off about 1-3 inches, slide out metal head gasket and reinstall factory without having to take it all apart again. my thinking is that the factory gasket with my arp bolts, torqued to 90psi, should fill the slight gap??? so number 1-- is it possible without having to remove head completely from vehicle. 2-- can this work?? by the way if it does i just need to be able to use the car for a month or 2 until one of our fellow members assembles a new block and head for me. right now this is my only car. so i'm looking to make it run for a few months. has anyone ever done this or heard of it?? once again, i'm trying to avoid taking the head and all components off this time.

someone told me once that you could just lift the head up a few inches, and slide the new one in, advisable, not sure, never done it myself. but he was a good mechanic i thought anyways. may want to check with some other people though.

my .02c would be no...don't do it. If you're doing it, just pull the whole thing apart and check for warpage. The other problem would be that the head and block needs to be re-cleaned to make sure it seals correctly. Just take it apart.

i worked for a repair shop once that wanted me to do that "lift and slip procedure" on a customers car, I packed my tool box right there and hit the road. my employer did it and i heard it only lasted about 400 miles on the hg and cooked the motor...
