i need to do a compression test on my 1j b4 i start buying all my parts but my engine is out of the car and its just sitting on a pallet. could i just hook up the compression tester and turn the crank until it compresses or is there another way to do it? what are some good compression numbers so i know if my 1jz is still good?

it wouldnt work with you just turning the crank by hand, unless your such a badass that you can spin it up to 250rpm. you have to get the starter to turn it over.

Maybe you can get an impact gun and put it on the crank bolt and have at it? I don't know if you can get the RPM's up high enough though. Worth a try.

mount the starter, jump the cables for the starer, make sure tehre's some oil in there.. and thats how i've done them in the pass.

Hell, you can probably see if anyone has the automatic flexplate that they aren't using and bolt that on. I have one at my home. But, I'm currently deployed. See if you can find one.

For a proper compression check, the engine must be at operation temperature! The numbers from a cold engine are often useless.

I was wondering if somebody was going to mention this.
