Does anyone know where I canget ahold of any performance camshafts, I can't seem to find anything. You'd think there would be few.

The only cams made for our cars are turbo cams. They wont be of any benifit to you since your still NA. The only thing that you could possibly do is get some custom ground
No not really, there are performance billets

Ah, Ive seen those sites before, but those are all turbo cams, which he could use but the lift on those seem to be a bit low for trying to extract max power out of an NA. Are you using any aftermarket cams with your set up defiant? Maybe you could make a suggestion as to what would work well with a close to stock NA.

Thanks, I could never find anything and I've googled a few different things a few times ... I'm just not good enough on the net I guess.

I have two sets one from Schnieder (the little cams) and one from TedComponents (the big cams). The lift isn't low actually at all. Stock lift is 7.6mm (.300) for a N/A cam, the duration is 199 @ .050. The druration is what you need for an N/A to help fill the cylinders. The longer duration will start to work against a Turbo car(overlap), because the turbo relies on exhaust gas. Lift will only work in your favor with headwork. For example my head will make power past .450 lift or 11.43 mm which is a lot for our cars. At that lift the pistons have to able to take that lift. Take a look @ my pistons http://www.supramania.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=457&d=1115694588. My piston will be able to handle .450 lift without the valve hitting it. Anything over that and I got a problem:nono: Cams are a finikie mod, they are combination mods. Meaning they work best with supporting mods. Headers being the big one then any intake mod. These two TedComponent cams should work great for the basic N/A. I personally feel the first one would be the best choice. You can over-cam an engine. It's best to start small and go from there with cams.

- 7.56mm/256 duration

- 7.70mm/268 duration (best choice, gains of up to 40hp)

Ah, you cleared some things up for me there. I had been told in the past that it was the changes in lift, not the duration that made the largest difference in a NA app. I did of course know that an increase in both resulted in a shift of power to the higher rpm range. Oh well, you learn something new everyday right :biglaugh: . But if I was at the point where I felt like I needed to get some new cams you could bet your ass I would at least get a nice p&p job. Thanks a lot Defiant!

I come from a land down under
Overlap is what kills Turbo cars with huge cams as you get to a point where you're blowing the charge straight through the motor and into the manifold and the EGT's go berserk!

You are still right...the lift lets more air in. The duration just holds the valve open longer. N/As need every cfm you can cram into the cylinders.
