Well I am in the process of doing the HKS MHG and was wondering how i could get the gears off with out damaging them. Help is grealty appreceated.

Undo the bolts and they should slide off by hand.

I mean what can i use as a brace to spin them off?

You're talking about the Cam Pullies where the belt is?

You undo the 2 x14mm bolts then pull the pully towards you.

Thats what im trying to do but i need something to hold the cam gears still.

shit, well i have the head off the car. what else can i use?

There are 2 flats on the cam that you can hold with either a normal wrench or a big crescent wrench.

what i do, is there is two bolts behind the cam pulleys. that hold that black plate on. stick a 10mm socket wrench onto that and brace the cam against that and wala. off it comes

^^^ what he said. I just use a BIG screwdriver thru a hole in the gear, and on the bottom of the 10mm bolt head to hold the gear still.

Thanks everyone but i did what IJ said and voila! Off came the cams lol. But now i have to spend much more time than expected. I messed up and let the cam shims and the caps they lay in spill out over the floor...does anyone know if they are differnt or are they the same?? Sorry for the noobie questions but i am pissed at my self for letting this happen.

ek, yes they are different. caps should be keep to which they go with as well as the shims. shims are specific for each valve. ut oh

If you're having any head work done you'd need to reshim anyway so no biggie Chris!
