Hi All,
I'd like some help with cam selection on my project car. It's an 88T and I'm just about to rebuild the engine, but am a little unclear on what cams to use. I'd like to be in the 450 - 500 rwhp area. So far I'm goin Maftpro, je's, stock p&p;d head , and hopefully a JT62R. ic & exhaust updates. tks for any thoughts...

Well, IMHO, for that power level, stock cams are fine. Many have made well over 600whp on stock ones. Not to say that they wouldnt have made considerably more power if they had ones more suited to their combo, but they made big power none the less.

I think its more gonna depend on what type of boost you plan to run. If youd liek to make your # at a relatively low boost, then you may want to get a little bigger cam to assist that goal.

If youre set on that power level, i probably woudlnt go bigger than a set of 264s and 8.5 ish lift. You shoudl still be able to use the stock buckets, which is a plus. If you want somethign to grow into, maybe a set of 272s with 9.5 ish lift but then its possible you may have to get into shimless or shim-under buckets (will mostly depend on the manufacturer and how they grind them [i.e billet or reground, etc.])

If your tight on funds though, the $ might be better spent elsewhere for the power youre lookign for.
