haha, that thing is such a pain in the ass.... actually, it's toyota covering up a hole that they already had in the m block casting for a dist. or something by using it for something else. I don't know if it is removable.

i've never seen a distrubutor mounted that low on a motor before...

and if you just spend the cash on a new one, then it's nice and flexible, so you wont have problems with it.

and it would have been easier to just make a metal block off plate (like the j-tube idea) to cover the hole if it had been there for a reason other than to vent the cam covers/crank/ oil drain..

Thing is, if it does infact help drain oil from the cam cover, why is it only on the one side? Couldn't both sides benefit? Just my thoughts.

NO ! :nono: The big allen screws only hold down the #3 cover. In fact, you could leave the center cover off (tho not recommended), as its only there to keep crap and water out of the spark plug hole area.

The rubber tube in question is only there to allow combustion gas blowby (from the piston rings) to vent thru the PCV system, which on our engines, is done thru those 2 tubes that go from the cam covers to the throttle body. Not to drain oil back to the pan. :icon_razz

mrnickleye read what IJ actually wrote.
under the big allen head caps
He didn't say under the cover.

Blow by comes from the cylinders/pistons forcing its way up to the PCV system. If a bypass wasn't provided, it would prevent the oil from draining down by gravity feed, through the rather small oil holes in the head/block.

yeah that tube is a pain in the ass.

I wonder if you could just put a breather on the block?

I just bought a new one from Champion for.... (checking reciept) 21 bucks it looks like... not cheap, but the new one is all flexiable and stuff, its nice!

Rather not have it, but no choice :)

Yawgmoth how is this tube a pain in the ass? I never have had problems with it, new or old...Whats happening?

You know, it always gets in the way when you work or your alternator. Or when you have to reach next to your engine to pick up some bolts off your under cover :icon_razz . Nah, I think people would just like to clean up the front a wee bit. I rather like Duane's version of the hose, all braided and shiney
