cam cover bolts?

I recently removed the Cylinder Head Covers, changed the gaskets, cleaned them up and reinstalled them. The first time I did this a few months back I used the stock bolts and they became extra lose over time and oil was spiling out the back, so I changed the bolts a month ago. I installed new stainless steel hex bolts, tightened them tight, and torqued them. A few weeks later they were dripping a little, so I re-torqued them. That lasted a couple more weeks.....now im seeing a few drips again....why are they comming loose time after time? Should I have used lock-tite?

yep, use loc-tite

also, did you replace the washers? the washers are meants to squish down a bit and keep them from backing out as easily.

are you torquing them to the proper spec as well?

Did you put The Right-Stuff on the fronts of the covers. Its as sealant and you put a dab at the front of the head to stop leaks there.

No I didnt put any sealant, what is the brand and how do I apply it?

Sealant is an excuse for tightening. I had leaky Valve cover gaskets so i replaced them (they might as well have been plastic!) and it was good for a little while. So I put the hex bolts on, tightened them w/ a f*&%ing allen wrench, thought they were tight, then they seeped some more. So instead of using silicone or sealant, I used and allen SOCKET!! to tighten the bolts with, no more leaking. Sometimes using silicone or a sealant can cause a leak by creating voids, or if it doesnt dry enough. Its import because RTV has to contain the melting properties of oil and if its not dry its going to let it pass right through.

PS- A small amount in the corners is good though, just when i had RTV in the corners it leaked, then i peeled it off and re torqued and no more leak.

What tool are you guys using to torque these bolts to?

I just used normal stainless hex bolts, plenty of anti-seize, new grommets and followed the instructions; not even a tiny seep out of it 2 months/7k miles later.
