cam cap problem

so i got a call from the machine shop that one of the cam caps on the head i just had them do work on is cracked. i'm pretty pissed off. i brought them a head that didn't have any problems and now it does. i haven't had a chance to see it in person yet though. tomorrow i'm going to go down there. the shop wants to get a cap off one of my spare heads to see if they can get it to work. i don't really like the idea and would like to hear from some of the experienced members if this is a bad idea to begin with. :: angry ::

As long as it's align honed it should be fine to use a cap from a different head.

^poodles won't that open up all my clearances across the board for that cam if they line hone them?

Not if done properly. Material is usually removed from the mounting surface of the cap to close them in a bit, then align honed to make them round.

This is all assuming the shop knows WTF they're doing, and considering they cracked a cam cap...
