Wondering was there any trade off when going with the one piece driveshaft, since it seems like the tranny and the 3rd member are not in a perfect straight line.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks

Well I just bought the worn out carrier bearing to the tune of 185.06 from Toyota. Thats 1/2 of a MAF Pro. Oh well.

I had just bought and installed my 1-piece alum. shaft along with my alum. fly and ACT stage3(6-puck) clutch. I don't notice any real vibrations I just know now my car moves like a raped ape:aigo: I can do 3rd gear burn outs when dropping down to 3rd on the freeway.....even though I have my 235(drift tires)on back. I love my set up..a little chatter when first taking off but after awhile you get smoother at taking off then its on like donkey kong. Later-T

I have one and its fine for me... at high speed (over 85mph) I do have vibrations but I have reason to believe its an unbalanced wheel, not the driveshaft.

On performance I cannot somment because I put in my clutch, LW flywheel and 4.30 LSD at the same time.

I believe those who claim there is vibration, probaly got a shitty ass driveshaft that wasn't balanced correctly, I am running a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft and have no vibration issues at all... aight peace

My car hums horribly now. Tried all sorts of different gear oils. Ive talked with alot of people about it, and found out the hum is the reason why toyota put a 3rd bearing support in the car to begin with.

Your talking about the center carrier bearing? I was wondering about that too. I don't hear any noise but notice a lot of the people running 1-piece due. I do notice that the tranny and rear-end don't line up in a straight line and the noise is probably coming from the u-joints??? I don't know my guess:icon_conf

mine has a resonation also. it is one of the jaws shafts that is balanced...its most noticable under acceleration. CF shouldn't resonate as much

I've been running a CF one piece for years. No problems. Had it rebuilt when the thing started leaking. (yes, the front slip yoke has a pressed in cap, this cap is sealed with silicone. It was leaking gear lube out that cap, and causing a reall mess.)

So, they found that one of the u-joints was damaged when it was installed, that contributed to the failure too. (Vibration and leak eventually.)

The replacement u-joints were installed correctly, no damaged caps.
However, it appears they did not ballence the shaft as well. (I asked that they weld up the cap, so it will never leak again.)

Now over 70 it makes a nasty rumble. The driveshaft shop guys tell me they can't balance it past 2500rpm. (Truck shop.) Says mine is off less than 2 thousands...

I need to take it back to them and ask for a re-balance. (I removed it, and it's just sitting on the shelf for now, back to the two piece and quiet again for me for the past few thousand miles.)
If they can't get it perfect, I'm going to want my money back.

BTW, the CF unit is about 10 lbs.
The stocker is like 30.

IT does make a difference, but you get used to the change very quickly. (The car has plenty of power as it is, but the with CF spins the tires that much more....)

There is some resonance with the 1 piece but I have had no vibration. Still love the 1 piece driveshaft for launching.

I have had two one piece shafts made by a local DS shop. They do DS's for circle track cars. They used my stock yokes and new u-joints, cost between 125.00 and 160.00, and weighed 13 lbs built out of steel. I have had no vibration issues up to 150 mph.

IIRC, Toyota went with the 2 piece because the critical speed is higher with shorter shafts. Still, have had a car with a 1 piece up over 150 and didn't notice anything particularly disturbing about it.
