*Cad File Request*

Thought I'd post here (no idea what section it should be in)

I need a Cad File for a 9" Ford mounting flange ie: Diff to case flange!

If needs be I can digitise a gasket but if anyone has this file it would save me a heap of time!

Can be any format but a DXF would make things even easier thanks!

Are you looking for an existing file or to have someone create one? I have Microstation, but I can export drawings to create Autocad drawings (version 14).

Nash: If you can get the file that would be great I have a 3 axis CNC Mill here at home so can cut it myself as it needs quite a bit of custom work to suit the Mk3!

Mark: Just after an existing file so I don't have to spend time generating one myself! (Will do it if I have to but am being lazy)

Would be easy if I had an A3 scanner as I have software to convert images to DXF's.

If needs be I'll do it on my A4 in 2 pieces and join them and go from there.

I need a copy of autocad... I used to have autocad 2000... registered copy, but when I moved, I lost it

I use Inventor it's much better for my needs than AutoCad as it allows me to assemble parts on the PC before I cut material.

Pretty sure I still have access to a 3d digitizing booth... and I think it spits out autocad format drawings...

Dave: Thanks I have a 3d probe for the CNC for digitising but it's a long slow process and for this job I only need 2d so will probably just scan the gasket to generate the file I need! (as I said I was just being lazy )

I get to use the full machine centres at school, but it would be bad ass to have one at home for personal use. That must have cost a pretty penny!

I am not to fond of Inventor, I prefer to use Catia.

I have a medium centre lathe with a DRO and Mig and Tig equipment so can pretty well make what I want here! (most times it's more cost effective to buy things ready made though)

I bought it as a new standard manual Mill a few years back and converted it to CNC myself it took me 6 weeks all up using another manual Mill to make the new parts and has been running ever since!

Pretty well paid for itself in the first 2>3 weeks

Very nice IJ, very nice indeed. I have a older Bridgeport and a Maximat Compact 11. Both are DRO equipped but manual. The tooling gets expensive though...it's never ending. Btw, CNC is for pussies . I have a Thermal Arc GTSW 300 for GTAW. (GMAW is also for pussies ).

I'd be lost without any of them. Nothing beats being able to make your own stuff. Throw in electronics and you can do just about anything.

Not a bad machine for the price though and I couldn't justify 70K for a 3 ton VMC for home!

I just upgraded my GTAW a year or so ago to a Kemppi 200 amp inverter AC/DC Hi Freq and love it!

Agreed on the Tooling, the machine is the cheap part!

The beauty of the CNC is I can use a $20 cutter to do the job of a $200 form cutter! (well that and it doesn't make as many mistakes as I do manually)

Yours is real pretty while mine is an ancient pile of junk. It needs rebuilding. My Emco 11 lathe is a nice machine though, one of the best built out there. I do more lathe work but the mill is still nice to have. I've thought about converting it to CNC but I'm too lazy to learn what is it, G code? Besides, I find it therapeutic to run by hand. I've always love messing with machine tools because of the precision.

I like Tig for the some of the same reasons. Fairly hard to master and precise. I also like it's dissimilar metals capability. Mig? Anyone can wire weld 20 minutes outta the box. I'll admit it's great when you need to run lots of bead though. Much of my work is small stuff, some around 15-30 amps. I have a cute 50 amp torch I got from Boeing that I use for that. Tiny little thing, like a pencil. Why I have a 300 amp inverter is beyond me. I can't remember the last time I went over 125 amps with it other than when I've used it to charge batteries and jump start cars
